Depends if you have problems getting it up

He lives in Saskatchewan. Chances are very good that the courses are all flatter than a slab of polished marble. He'd probably be okay driving the ball with a brick tied to the end of a broomstick as the ball would roll 400 yds anyway.

Back in the 80's it was like that but now adays there are some nice courses there.

They use water and have softened up those hard prairie fairways.

Not true, There are some people that hit a rather high ball that would benefit from a 9 degree.

By virtue of the fact that he is asking the question, I assumed that he is an average weekend hacker who needs an average driver. Players who need specific clubs usually know what they need before they go buy it.

True, it was still a good opening to ask if he has trouble getting it up.

Unless you play professional golf, you do not want the 9.

My driver is a 9 and I am by no means a professional.

This is an entirely different question than whether to get a 9 or 10.5 degree driver.

If this is your first set of clubs, get cheap ones and figure out what you like. You won't know what kind of shafts you need, etc. without playing a few rounds.

If you are new to golf you would be better off buying a cheaper set and spending the extra money on golf lessons.
Obviously don't buy a piece of crap set but go into golf town, tell them you are a beginner and they'll set you up with a nice set of game improvement clubs.
Then go get lessons....you'll thank me for this.

Len Berman knocked my BB out of my hands at a party on Saturday night. It fell to the ground and the screen cracked. It's finished. I'm going to get an iPhone now.

Your friend,
Howard

Even Pete has an iPhone, can't use it but he has one.

Go with a set of either 34D's or maybe a 36C.

Of course.

Speaking of lessons, I bought a practice net this weekend and a 60° lobe wedge, which is absolutely fun to use.

It's also good to figure things out on your own, People can tell you what works for them but seeing as no golf swing is exactly the same, the player needs to figure out what will work for them.

Well, yeah... missing a shot sucks regardless of the club you are using.
