How about Larsson who's played 1 game

Watching that game last night, and seeing McDonagh get obliterated with one of the hardest checks I have seen in a while and not missing a shift, playing 53+ minutes, watching Boyle who just returned from a concussion blocking shots with his face, just makes me shake made head in amazement at the lack of effort in that playoff game on Tuesday night. Just unreal.

I am amazed they remain relatively injury free despite the goings on listed above and all the shots they block. Not a broken foot or face save anywhere. Charmed team that way.

I thought Sutherland did his usual fine job in Game 2. He wasn't obtrusive, his decisions were understandable and he communicated well with the players and coaches.

Lee, unfortunately, also reffed his normal game. He made at least three bad calls in the game (one which should have benefited the Flyers).

That first-period scrum was caused by Lee losing sight of the puck -- the Flyers kept whacking away because it was still loose, the Devils got mad at all the Philly players jabbing at their goalie when an ill-timed whistle blew. Both sides were justified in their reaction.

Then Lee sent off only one player (JVR) in the scrum after the whistle. Without knowing exactly why he called it that way, I'll give the ref the benefit of the doubt and assume he let a few shots go then said "Enough! Next guy gets a penalty" and JVR was the next guy.

I noticed that during a TV timeout late in the first period, Lee went over to talk to JVR, patted him on the back and then skated away. So at least he explained his call.

I still think Lee makes too many poor calls and then evens up marginal calls on one side with marginal calls on the other.

A bad game is one thing, a loss is one thing, playing a playoff game with zero effort or passion isn't acceptable.

The thing I mentioned the other day is that he often will make up for mistakes.. He makes a bad call, and then compounds it by making another weak call.. Or if he misses a call, he seems to feel the need to try and make a call.

He is way to involved.. and unfortunately, never in a good way.

Could be a lot worse. I think Watson is usually decent, Joanette less consistent but no worse than average.

Last game, I just thought it was funny that the ref team was the guy I consider the best in the NHL and one I consider to be in the bottom 5.

Well said Bill. Appreciate your insight on that. I think Lee tends to micromanage a game when all that is required is the right amount of responsible oversight. Kerry Fraser had a column on TSN a few weeks back, after the chaotic Game 3 in the Flyers - Pens series. He talked about "taking the temperature" of a game and knowing when to not sweat the small stuff. Lee unfortunately does not subscribe to that philoshophy.

Bill, how can Sean not be considered one of the best rookies so far? I know it is easier to shut down Malkin and Crosby because they are both centers and wingers are a little harder since he doesn't get caught out of position. He has a hat trick for goodness sake.

... when he's not blasting a 100 MPH shot past the goalie or drawing three players to him and dishing to an open teammate at point blank range.

Even with his mobility limited right now, he can still do those things.

It's sounding like he'll play 4th line at even strength plus power play. So I don't think he's going to hurt the team defensively tonight.
