I like Jagr but I rather see Voracek or JvR on that top line.

I'm totally ok with swapping Jagr and Jake for a bit.

Was it me or did it seem like the Flyers were having a hard time staying on their skates? Weird game last night, the team was flatout terrible.
- stveshdy

I know a lot of you guys think the Flyers were flat, or outworked, or just not into the game last night ... but I'm not so sure. I think it was simply a combination of the Devils playing a style that completely caught the Flyers off guard, and the Flyers themselves simply not being as hard on the puck as they normally are.

The Devils ultra-aggressiveness in the 2nd and 3rd caused a poopload of problems, especially because the Flyers were flat footed more than usual. It's almost like the Flyers expected them to fall back a bit and clog the neutral zone, and when the Devils instead played very aggressive and constantly attacked it constantly surprised us.

If tomorrow night the Flyers are every bit as aggressive as the Devils, move their feet every bit as much as the Devils, and stop passing up shots on goal, we'll get the win.

Nothing the Devils did in the game last night as far as style of play was a surprise. They simply were the faster, stronger, more committed team. This isn't the Lemaire coached Devils.

I agree. I don't want to make too many changes. Hartnell needs to get going in this series. Even if he doesnt score I expect more from him as far as being physical in this series. The Flyers as a team are lacking in that department.

Just feels like theres no "hate" right now.

It's pretty simple. It never comes down to that, or systems play. The Flyers have played the Devils how many times during the Season. The Scouts have watched them play. They've reviewed the tapes from the previous round. There is nothing that the Devils or the Flyers can do that would surprise each other. Hockey always comes down to puck battles, and making plays, and skating. Like Timonen says here.

They were the better team, no question about it,” Kimmo Timonen said. “When our skating is off, it looks like that. This game is all about skating and speed nowadays. If you don’t have it, you’re gonna be trouble.”

Yep.

Their puck support was especially strong in both ends of the rink. They attacked the Flyers' puck carriers all night, especially on the PP, forcing quicker decisions that were made poorly.

Such as what? What could the Devils possibly do strategy wise that the Flyers would be surprised by? What did they do in the last game that surprised the Flyers strategy wise?

No question about it. Every time you looked the Flyers were outnumbered on the puck. And beaten to the puck.

There are degrees to everything. Just because the Flyers knew that the Devils often play an uptempo game doesn't mean they weren't caught off guard by how uptempo and aggressive the Devils were.

Why would they be put off guard by it when that's the way the Devils play? And have played all year. 82 games in a Season plus playoff games and the Flyers are caught off guard by a team playing uptempo and aggressive? A team down 1-0 in a playoff series and they're caught off guard? Not likely. The Flyers were out skated and outworked. Not caught off guard. They simply didn't match the Devils effort.

One has nothing to do with the other. Obviously the Flyers were outworked and out skated by the Devils ... that's a given.

But you act like a team is EITHER aggressive or it is NOT aggressive. That's simply not true. Again, there are degrees to everything. Things are not so black or white.

I'm hoping it goes into OT and then is extended by another 17 periods of uninterrupted play. Need something to keep my mind off the Flyers until game time tomorrow evening.

Sorry I haven't said this sooner, but congratulations on dispatching Pittsburgh so wonderfully. Never been a fan of Philly either, but between the two, I chose you guys over Cindy Crybaby and his downs syndrome side kick. It was funny last year after we (the Lightning) took care of them in 7 games all of Arm-Pittsburgh was saying "if we had Crosby and Malkin we would have one the Cup". Well you had them and were knocked out quicker! How do you like them apples. Now slay the Devil(s)!

Yes it is black and white. You either match the other team's work ethic and compete. Or you don't. At what point in the game does the surprise wear off? Where the Flyers are no longer surprised? And now it's time to fight back and raise your level of play. Did the Flyers remain surprised all through the 2nd and 3rd period?
