i absolutely love going back and forth over it. it just sucks that some people become idiotic about it. everyone is going to overvalue their own a bit. it happens. theres still a lot of fun to be had talking though, especially with two teams such as this
- stayinthefnnet

Well its funny cause were hoping were 3-5 years away from where you guys got through drafting. Obviously we love ourselves some draft picks right now

Hopefully we can sign those guys to Johnny T like deals... I don't think we'll be keeping all four though... As long as we get good assets for whoever we trade, I'll be happy.
- laughs2907

yeah. i dont see that happening, but at least you wont be disappointed about anything. id rather have that kind of problem than just never have the players to begin with. the pens werent good right away with these high picks, and no offense other than them the oilers really dont have a lot of quality on the roster, so its unrealistic for everyone to expect a rapid turn around. eberle is already one of the best in the league. it will be hard keeping them together but you guys are going to be a good team very soon. (although as the pens have shown, all that top end talent doesnt guarantee anything haha)

What can help you guys to another Cup would be Fleury not deciding to take naps in the middle of playoff games.
- GuyLaDouche

fleury totally pissed himself this series, but it wasnt all his fault. however, he is still an above average goalie who can be spectacular at times. the cup run does not happen without him.

nothing wrong with that. that is how you win in the league today. entree level contracts are golden. also, the big franchise centers that every team needs are very rarely acquired any other way. soon though, you guys are going to have to make due with picks in the lower 20s where its not so easy haha

no ad block at work, so no quote.

Fleury is still good. He just needs to make sure he leaves no holes that are so humongous big.

all valid points. he can be brutal at times, but im still in fleurys corner. there arent many in the league you would realistically take over him. im not going to say hes top 3, but the pens system is also MURDER on goal tenders. the numbers of a king henrik or rinne would suffer greatly playing behind that team

They're better than their playoff performance this year. They'll do more damage next season, I'm sure. That Pens/Flyers was nuts, and goaltending was complete garbage on both ends... I don't know what happened, but I'm sure it'll be better next year.

Earlier this week someone posted Quebec's three 1st overall picks, and mentioned that neither of those guys were on the Avs when they won their cups. Depending on the return, I think it would be beneficial to trade maybe 2 of (Eberle, RNH, Hall, Yakupov) in the future...

Wouldn't rule it out. Of course the Oilers could add 2-3 key pieces if we traded a guy like Hall.

Price at #2?

And Thomas is still definitely top 5 in the league... Next season Schneider will be in the top 5 as well.

You can't have the youth we have without a veteran player to teach them how to win and Smyth is that...

As for Staal, we have to forget about that...

I am glad I am not the only one that thinks Stewart is the way to go here...

I would like to see us trade dubnyk for a box of hockey stick tape...

- bsteinley

I don't mind Smyth being back, but can't be for a pot of gold. 1 year at $2-2.5M

Forget Staal, he stays in PIT or to CAR. After watching more Yakupov plays online, cannot pass up on such talent. The guy hits, passes, shoots, dangles, etc. Sick. I would take my chances on him even of all the so called PIT fans knocking on potential of a 1st round pick

Stewart and Halak for Hemsky+, let's do it. Don't know would STL be ready to see Allen be a backup to Elliot, but let's see how Elliot does the rest of playoffs. EDM signs Wideman and Colaiacovo, and send Hemsky+d-mans to STL. My goodness Carlson plays are rocking for WSH tonight, if only Carlson in EDM.

I don't know about trading Dubnyk, can stick around and learn from Halak. Bulin probably bought out or buried in AHL to mentor Bunz or Roy.

yeah. that series was very irregular. however, if they dont learn to acquire some discipline they wont win the cup again. their talent would have gotten them past the majority of teams in the conference, but eventually you come up against someone good enough that talent alone wont cut it. it just so happened that was the first round this year.

as far as trading one or two of your guys, you may have to move one because of the cap. looking at 2 is ballsy. hey if you can improve your team, youd be foolish to not look at any deal i guess. you already know that theyre gonna need some size and good defense, and the stud defenseman is a valuable commodity. it literally seems like half the league is searching for a defenseman with size and a shot who can clear the crease and yet man the powerplay. theres just not many of those guys around unfortunately

had to google what prv was... Don't really want your castoffs. A player that couldn't make the line up of one of the last place teams and a guy who minus one game was mediocre at best. nah...
- ChrisMS

It should be noted we were about middle of the pack offensively (20th), especially with our highest scoring dman netting 25 points only.

Eberle and Hall were about on par with Neal and Kunitz, without the benefit of an 100 point centre. Your next two best wingers offensively were Dupuis (59) and Sullivan (48). We had Smyth (46) and Hemsky (36 in 70 games).

Considering again that you take Syd's 22 games and Staal's 62 games, you've got 80 more points from centres there (let's say there's some overlap, so 70 points). Now you're talking about a set of wingers in Edmonton that is not significantly less tough to crack than the top scoring team in the league's.

PRV's not really a castoff.
