That's just it, isn't it....I think the Leafs need to make Vokoun their no. 1 priority. It makes sense for Luongo in Tampa anyway. - triggermartin
Considering that Vokoun took 1.5 for a supposed chance at a cup run, and the fact that TB doesn't have the cap flexibility to make a Luongo deal happen,, they'd much sooner take Vokoun if he's willing to sign at, oh, say 3.5 per, than trade actual assets to acquire Luongo.
Besides, I'm not convinced Vokoun comes here. He took a pay cut for a cup run, if he really wants to do the same shtick again he'd swing by CHI for a season |

sure bro and maybe they'll throw in Nash Too - ky678468
What makes you think they're crazy about a draft pick at this point. They seem to be in the mindset of winning now over development. Hell they are probably as scared of drafting top 5 as the Leafs. We'd offer up a versatile, sometimes even explosive centreman, and a young goaltender that they could at least pin some hope for the future on. Hell Grab's 20+g wingman would be on his way too.
And if they do move Nash somewhere else, they'll surely get some younger talent to compensate or trading their second this year |

you see a lot of players who need to bulk up go to collage, more time for the gym to bulk up slowly. read a hockey news article once about CHL guys trying to add too much muscle over the summer and having their skating suffer come September. Plus you get more discipline in University, no fighting or stupid after whistle antics, so for a big guy like Biggs (lol) he could just develop his skills.
that said most players these days go CHL for tthe schedule, better coaching, better competition ect. I kinda wish Biggs stayed in College, his size will dominate the in the OHL and he will get away with things he won't be able to do in the NHL. hope he improves his skating enough to make the Marlies - ky678468
The OHL game better suites Biggs. |

I actually thought about that too, and wonder if the Luongo situation, which rose after signing Grabs, influences BBs willingness to hang onto Grabs for this deal.
This window before July 1st in which his new deal isn't in effect could be an opportunity to trade a guy who's value is actually pretty high considering he's locked in for another 5 years.
Just think, if we could get Luongo for Kadri and the 5th, then could we turn around to CBJ and get the 2nd for Grabs, Mac and Reimer? - AngryWhiteMale
Ya, moving up in the draft AND getting a legit puck stopper, I don't think it could get much better. But moving that #5 for Lou and not doing the 2nd deal for the #2 pick would be heart breaking, I don't think I can handle watching another draft where our pick is pulling on another sweater! |

i think tampa and Loungo has more to it than toronto. Malone goes the other way to make the cap work probably with a first and a depth prospect. there a several goalie options that are available this summer that can fill the gap till we fully look at all the young guys we have. if we give up kadri to land LOU and then have reimer bounce back we loose big. Florida has 3 goalies atm so we could nab a guy there. |

I don't think BB moves this pick. I think he learned his lesson from Kesselgate
Kadri goes for Luongo, and scores 30 goals in his first season on Sedins' wing |

I agree if Reimer bounces back, then we're burnt, unless we can trade him for assets. Kinda hard for that to happen with Lu playing 3/4 games.
FLA is going to go with Theodore and Markstrom next year, one's not moving, the other is past his prime and not worth going after.
TB won't give up Malone. Despite his big cap hit apparantly the Lightning, and Yzerman in particular, like his size and feel it is necessary going forward.
Unless Lecavalier packs up and heads to MTL the Lightning aren't splurging on Luongo.
They simply don't want to give up the assets. And think, if they feel they have a reasonably good shot at Vokoun on July 1st, then they might gamble and not get involved in the Luongo sweeps as they could get a starter for nothing via UFA
Personally I'd rather have Penner over Malone, a guy I think we sign this off season. |

they moved Carter, Nash wants out. they have too many holes to run at the playoffs, they have a chance to draft a new franchise forward to add to the picks and prospects they get for Nash. Why would they trade a chance future impact player for some depth. would you trade our 5th to the peg for Ladd and Wellwood and a ? in net |

No doubt the guy has skill and the finish to score, I just don't think he does it in TOR considering the microscope we've put him under.
That said, it's sad how he's the one top pick we've made that we truly were patient with.
He just won't gel under Carlyle and we all know that's a given |

Ok so fair comparison. I'd still take Grabs and his 60pts, plus the guy who gets 20g a season on his wing over those 3, but it really depends on what CBJ wants.
Do they want to draft? Do they have the patience?
Howson probably has a good idea of what he can get for Nash. If it's a true blue chipper or a pick he knows will be top 3, then maybe trading his no. 2 works.
Now there's lots of variables, and Nash' return to CBJ is big, but what exactly it is remains to be seen.
One thing I could see is Nash & Methot to SJ for a package of Marleau, 1st, a goalie(Sateri or Griess) and perhaps a 2nd or mid level prospect |

What does Carlyle have against skilled players? he made Andy McDonald a Star and Teemu Selanne revived his career under him, he has always had his powerplay scorers. |

goalies are a strange breed: IE this years Giguere and Elliott some goalies fit with a team some don't. I just don't want LOU and his contract anywhere near this team, and to see kadri leave for him would be IMO ridiculous. |

Making the team would have been easier under RW than RC.
Plus politics plays a part. He may be worth more to us as trade bait in our search for a Goalie than as a forward on our team |

If Lu wasn't up to the challenge of TOR he wouldn't accept a trade here.
His cap hit isn't that bad, and he will most likely either retire or accept a trade to sunny FLA for the last few years once he hits 39 and has collected 85% of the deal.
We simply aren't going anywhere without better goaltending. Not saying Reimer can't turn things around, it's just that after last season's collapse there is a greater sense of urgency for BB to get this issue dealt with before it costs him his job |
