"Hearing TOR 1st rder Tyler Biggs leaving Miami (OH) University. Options next season would include NHL (Leafs), AHL (Marlies), OHL (Oshawa)."
9 goals in 37games in NCAA. Doesn't sound like hes ready for the pros. - Schennski

It was his first year in NCAA.
Wasn't getting the ice time to be amazing. |

Im not knocking his game, I know powerforwards take more time to develop. But I dont think he'll be in the NHL or AHL next year. as Bob McKenzie mentioned |

Forget Penner...we dont need another mostly useless player on the team. Brown would be good...but he's not going anywhere. |

if we can get him cheap... like, 2M or less... we should do it.
Worst case scenario, he sits in the press box or goes to the marlies.
Most likely scenario, you get a few dominant games out of him for (relatively speaking) chump change, and a spare part for the rest of the season.
Best case scenario, he goes back to his 30 goal potential under a coach that got some good play out of him in the past. - Feeling Glucky?
Such a leaf fan...signing a player with the worry or "worst case scenario" he'll sit in the press box.
How about signing a player you know wont be sitting in the press box? |

Biggs will be better off in Oshawa anyways. |

"Would you be in favor of the Leafs making a trade for Brown, roll the dice on Penner on a short term deal or explore other options?"
Brown? After this playoff...not happening.
Penner? Meh...if it costs us next to nothing.
Other options? Yeah. Thomas Vokoun. |

Biggs should have just made the move to the OHL last year. Playing in 37 games in a year isn't really the best way to prepare for a pro career. I know there are guys who do it, but if you are serious about making hockey a career you have to be on the ice. |

I could see Penner being an effective pickup. And at a cheap rate
It's still not happening until the smoke from draft day clears as there's a lot of questions about how much cap space the Leafs will have going into July 1st.
Gunnarsson and Franson need new deals as well.
Really wishing we hadn't given Grabs that monster deal...it'll burn us |

The amount of playing time at college certainly has the potential to slow his development down.
I'm just not sure which would be better for him next year, Oshawa or the Marlies.
I'd lean twoards a year in the OHL being better for him as it'll allow him to get his fitness up, get more minutes than he would with the marlies, and adjust to the longer schedule.

Vokoun will sign with TB if they don't go hard after Luongo and snag him at the draft

I don't think the Grabo deal will be that bad, at the very least he shoul remain an asset and something you could actually trade. Obviously you can't sign someone to a new deal and trade him in the first year(unless you are the Flyers) but I don't see this contract being dead weight like Lombo or Komi |

I actually thought about that too, and wonder if the Luongo situation, which rose after signing Grabs, influences BBs willingness to hang onto Grabs for this deal.
This window before July 1st in which his new deal isn't in effect could be an opportunity to trade a guy who's value is actually pretty high considering he's locked in for another 5 years.
Just think, if we could get Luongo for Kadri and the 5th, then could we turn around to CBJ and get the 2nd for Grabs, Mac and Reimer? |

That's just it, isn't it....I think the Leafs need to make Vokoun their no. 1 priority. It makes sense for Luongo in Tampa anyway. |

you see a lot of players who need to bulk up go to collage, more time for the gym to bulk up slowly. read a hockey news article once about CHL guys trying to add too much muscle over the summer and having their skating suffer come September. Plus you get more discipline in University, no fighting or stupid after whistle antics, so for a big guy like Biggs (lol) he could just develop his skills.
that said most players these days go CHL for tthe schedule, better coaching, better competition ect. I kinda wish Biggs stayed in College, his size will dominate the in the OHL and he will get away with things he won't be able to do in the NHL. hope he improves his skating enough to make the Marlies |
