Any interest in Ryan Malone?

I like him, but the problem is we already have plenty of wingers and he is not as good as most of our wingers.
I would much rather have him on the third line then kaleta

In response to a fan’s question, Matheson doubts the Oilers would be able to pry winger Drew Stafford away from the Buffalo Sabres.

Per Spector

A question was also posted on spectors site as to..............Should the Pens trade Malkin instead of Staal? not saying they should or will. I'll let Gunner answer that.

The asking price for #1 overall might be too high, especially when you consider the peer pressure to pick a winger, which is not a position of need.

That won't happen, it mentions Subban and a 3rd for the Oliers first, what a laugher that is. I'd move one of our 1st this year for a Center we need, i'd still take Thornton but that's just me.

To be honest it is a question that cannot be answered right now. Anybody trying to answer it is totally disregarding the uncertainties of the new CBA that will be coming down the pipe.

Personally I dont think you trade guys who win Conn Smythe, Art Ross, Calder, and I am assuming the Hart trophy this year. I dont see how that makes you a better team. Those awesome deals the Flyers made this summer are not the norm. You rarely get fair value back when dealing a huge star.

Furthermore Crosby's health is still an unknown long term. You cant lose an asset like Malkin if Crosby is not a guarantee. Answers will clear up when Crosby signs his new deal. His deal will set the Penguins salary ceiling and where things go from there. That wont get done until there is a new CBA.

Besides, we are trading Staal to Toronto for Kaberle.

I agree and from what was posted on his site, most do as well. I think some are overrating Staal IMO. No way I would move Malkin I had a differant opinion of him, I use to think of him as part time "lazy" but I see him now as more of a guy that can carry the team with or without Crosby. I see Staal going first if it came to that IMO.

Well there is sure a lot of discussion on our board about it. It depends on Staal. If Staal is OK with being the third center and/or playing top 6 wing, then I don't trade any of them. Give Staal his 6M/yr, he is only 23 years old and getting better every year. You make the money work somehow. If that means Kunitz (3.75M) has to go then so be it. If Staal doesn't want to play wing and wants to be a top 6 center, well, then Shero has some decisions to make. Everything I hear from Jordan's mouth is that he enjoys playing in Pittsburgh and his agent said yesterday that he will NOT initiate a trade request.

I think Letang in 3 years will be the one the Penguins set free given that their organizational depth is on defense and they are really high on Despres, Morrow, and Harrington. Letang will make 7M/yr minimum IMO.

give Edmonton Nashvilles 1st, Stafford and a d prospect for the 1st overall then flip it to Montreal for their 1st and Lars Eller

and that is why I am the GM

To be honest he is down on the depth chart. Whether that is because of the strength of the players ahead of him or he isnt that good, I really dont know.

Despres, Morrow, Harrington and Strait are definitely ahead of him on the depth chart. Picard and Borrtuzzo were also used as call ups before him. Ironically enough his only NHL game was this past season and it was against Buffalo. Sneep is 24 and has some young guns that will be taking his spot in the pecking order. He seems to be a guy the Penguins would love to keep as a depth player in the organization and also one they might move to give him a chance elsewhere.

Ryan Malone plays the right way, but his cap hit is too high. I think he is the kind of guy you want on your team. Great teammate and great battle level. He has the sandpaper the Sabres lack. Vanek, Pominville, and potentially Foligno are the only ones I think are better than Malone.

However, that cap hit is not a good one and Sabres arent in a position to add more money to the winger position. That and he has a NMC that has been rumored he will only waive for Pittsburgh (should have thought about that when he signed for 4.5M).

Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News notes that if the Stars choose to move forward Mike Ribeiro and/or captain Brenden Morrow, they could have a look at Buffalo Sabres' Brad Boyes as a replacement.
Although Heika is unaware if such a move is in the Stars' future, he acknowledges that Ribeiro and Morrow could be the top candidates to be traded if the club is looking to shake things up after missing the post-season for the fourth straight season.

While a change of scenery could benefit both Ribeiro and Morrow, Boyes would most likely be inspired to perform better than he did this season, posting eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points in Buffalo, seeing that he is hungry for bigger minutes and more responsibility.
A move to Dallas could make sense for the 30-year-old, who made $4 million this year and is probably not going to make that much money again after such a sub-par season.

this guy used Brad Boyes and inspired in the same sentence

Frustration leads to bad decisions.

This IS NOT a strong draft.

It's like picking Rosie O'Donnell over Sandra Bernhard or Amy Winehouse and saying: Gee...I won.

Moving up in this draft is of marginal, if any value-

Heatley publically said I want out......at least twice.

Lindros and his dad aired his/their laundry in public.

Hodgson quietly asked to be traded and has never (to my knowledge) said a peep about it.

Av, Gillis, and Roberts handled this wrong. None of the 3 took the high road on this one.

- dadeadhead

Looking back at some of Hodgson's actions, I would dispute he "took the high road". It must have been pretty serious stuff for Gillis to even refer to it -- that has been unlike him. It's all done and I hope Hodgson becomes what his Mommy and Daddy think he is. Seriously, I still like him, wish he was still a Canuck (with AV gone), and wish him well.
