So why expand there then? The product is diluted. Americans like goalscoring. People down south don't get a 1-0 goaltending battle, or a 1-3-1 trap. - pmg2008
"Getting" it and finding it entertaining are two completely different things. And I have never met a hockey fan that found the 1-3-1 particularly entertaining, on either side of the border. |

why buy as horse if you've got no cart for him to pull?
besides i bet the good people of KC enjoy concerts and the other things that come with a nice urban arena. |

not every american lives below the mason dixon line. besides some of the small market teams--nashville--have done very well.
so every canadian really enjoys trapping hockey? - Fountain-San
Offensively challenged teams (I'm genernalizing) (read cash strapped teams) tend to be strong defensively. Tend; not all.

Yes, seriously. Part of my work requires I speak with people in the QC area. It is quite stunning how many do not speak English. |

That's not the norm. I honestly thought the Clippers played elsewhere (shouldn't they?). The Mets and Yankees play in separate stadiums, as do the Cubs and White Sox. - pmg2008
The Clippers are the red headed step child of the Lakers. Why they don't play all games in Anaheim which is a ten minute drive is beyond me. California vanity at it's best. If they play in Anaheim they couldn't be LA Clippers. Even though the stupid Angels get to be the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Not a fan of any of them but that is the way of California sports.

i don't really see that as an economic issue. caps, devils, bruins i'm sure many more defensive teams are fine financially. |

KC is a nice place, don;t get me wrong. I think there are better markets.

Fair, but you sound like you have been watching the game for some time now. I am pushing 40 years. There have been a few changes in that time...

Wow. They could be the new Nashville. Cheifs fans are great and the Royals suck balls. Perfect time to get in. Nothing against Quebec but its a very small city with people already loyal to other hockey teams. - Buffalo--Sabres
Bottom line is, if you put a winner, and I mean a perennial winner, not just once in a while, in just about any city, people will come and support the product. Winning is the biggest draw, and always has been.
If Phoenix is a contender to make it to the Western Conference Finals and/or the Cup Finals every year, people will come to watch every year. You can't put a team in a new and unfamiliar market, and have it at or near the bottom, or even be mediocre for 10 years straight, and expect people to catch interest. People go to sporting events be entertained, and most people are entertained by winning. |
