They can win without him.

Danny has a slight uptick in goals per 82 games in the playoffs, but it's negated by being even worse in his own end. He plays a more open-ice game in the playoffs and it translates to a few more goals, but also leads to just as many goals against.

- bradleyc4

You make him sound like Pavel Bure or something. How many goals happened in these playoffs due to him? He was playing with Schenn and Simmonds and neither of the 2, especially, Simmer, has been very good defensively.

I'd be more inclined to use it on Bryzgalov. I'm no Bryz hater, but I think that nine year contract is far more of a cap killer.
- BulliesPhan87

I think Bryzgalov plans on retiring before that becomes an issue. Of course I can't back this up with anything, but the fact his agent is Ritch Winter and the FLyers have a long history of dealing with him, I think there's an understanding there that if his play deteriorates so badly he'll waive that NMC. I know Briere won't because of the personal stuff and I'm not holding that against him, he has total prerogative there to exercise that right. With Bryzgalov I don't know of anything that would have him cemented into not leaving the team. Also his money is mostly front loaded so if a team struggling to hit the cap floor was to take him, they wouldn't be strapped to pay him.

lol so tru

but actch with jvr and voracek, i don't think that line will be a liability because those two can hang onto the puck forever and jake is actually really good defensively, which has been such a beautiful surprise.

i actually wasn't happy with the carter return when i first heard it because i didn't think highly of jake

he's been by far the biggest surprise of the overhaul, imo

We have to hold onto jake, even if it means letting jagr walk.
- JoeRussomanno

he's restricted, so i'm not concerned about it. i hope he gets a nice 2 year, $7 mil deal after this year.

uuuuh, have you heard about this guy, Sean Couturier, he plays for us. He was 18 and everyone (well most of the people on this board as i recall) wanted him to play another year in the Q. Now, he is, well, amazing. I think he is even a bigger surprise (let alone the fact that we were even able to pick in draft (Thank you Mono!!))

Couturier was also a highly touted prospect to begin with, him falling in the draft was more the exception. Voracek was sold to us as a project who may succeed with a change of scenery. In truth, I heard that and had images of Zherdev 2.0, so I'm rather surprised with Jake as well. Not a slight to Couturier, he's definitely been a huge factor in the Flyers' success so far.

I think the same exact thing about him.

But I do think he can improve that part of his game, and if he ever does, look the frank out.

for me, jake is a bigger surprise. hard to have a negative opinion of a guy who was just drafted and has never played in the nhl. everything i had ever heard about couturier was positive, and i was one of the knuckleheads beating the drum for him to make the team pretty much from day one

obviously impressive what he's done, but for me jake is a bigger surprise. i thought he was one of those floaters who put up some points on a bad team (obviously unfairly)

Bill mentioned it in the Blog, Fatso is trying to plant a seed of doubt in the refs minds to get future calls. No it wasn't interference.

not even close...JVR was outside of his crease and Marty was right behind him. What a joke, move on, get focused on next game.

we all know the first time Mary gets bumped it'll be called.

I was definitely one of the ones who wanted Couturier back in juniors this season.

What a dummy.

accidentally !'d this. i hope you get banned for life.

all historical indicators pointed towards him going back to juniors, so it's not like you were out of line. coots is a very, very rare player and i'm glad he's a flyers.

I don;t know if I wanted him in Juniors but thought some time with the Phantoms would be good. Don't feel bad, he's a real special player and you nor I should be faulted for wanting to take our time with him.

When Jagr leaves the Flyers -- whether it's this summer to play a one-year contract elsewhere or next summer to retire from the NHL and run HC Rytiri Kladno as a player-owner -- his most lasting legacy may be on being such a positive influence on Voracek (other young players, too, but especially Jake).

Those who saw him all the time in Columbus are amazed by how much Voracek has matured in his all-around game and his preparations for games. Jagr has encouraged him to work on lower body strength and you can see the influence in the way he shields the puck.

IIRc, Jake took that rep personally and worked hard to dispel it. I wonder if he was simply lacking motivation to play on a bad team with no hockey culture in the region. Not thats an excuse, but I can see it happening. Plus, its his contract year.
