Because you would think the Oilers need to address other issues sometime don't you? The Oilers have plenty of offensive talent already. The Oil need to focus on a #1 Dman and a true #1 goalie more than they need Yakupov.
We can offer a signed and sealed Ryan Suter for Yakupov. A proven All Star dman stuck in Weber's shadow who is proven. - kypredsfan

Consensus #1
Didnt this kid break the scoring record set by Steve Stamkos?
Yeah we don't want that.
- robin_steele264
Its funny.
Its like the player haters ball everytime yakupov comes up.
Love it.
Unless we get a banger offer we'll be tsking the smallish scoring star |

Ryan suter is also a number 1. Better at some facets of the game actually.
If we were offered him at a fair rate, we'd be crazy to not consider it.
In fact, probably do it.
We know we need a 1 dman.
Its like the trolls dont think we're aware. But thats the point.
we're not sure murray can be that guy.
So we go with the safer, sure bet
If stu is convinced murray can be a true number 1 for us we'll take murray over yakupov |

Weber has a slightly better offensive game and is more physical. |

Yes. Slightly. And probably a better fit for the oil due to that physicality which we lack.
But isnt as strong positionally or defensively.
Trotz plays ryan more mins alot of nights.
Im not arguing suter over weber. Im just sayin the preds have two number 1s. |

He's a ufa in a couple months, unless Nash wanted a sign and trade... That'd be interesting.

Of course. I was making assumptions.

When people talk about the Colorado glory days they forget that they made three monsterous trades in building their team. They traded away both Lindros and Sundin. They also acquired Patrick Roy through another trade.
I think you always take the best player in the draft. At some point the Oilers will need to balance out their roster to add in size and some defensive jam. But, the acquisition of the new pieces is not too difficult if you already have most of the key pieces in place and a surplus of talent that allows you to make strategic deals. |

Jesus...
Of course not.
Think u might be dissecting my words too closely.
Suter has agreed in principle to the deal and a new contract (cause he cant have 2 at once)
Or
is reupped by the preds and dealt to us for the pick |

WOW you consider yourself a troll??????
Your a hack a wannabe.
A troll writes things to get a reaction good or bad.
Hockeybuzz is full of trolls and they are way out of your league buddy.
You my friend are looking to see how long you last.
Well my friend you can run along to your little friends and say you lasted what almost two pages of comments.
Some people make being a troll an art form. I know I have run into them and they can make ya look like a total duffoon, they do not come out and look like the buffoon, please go to the Toronto or Ecks comment sections and see what real trolls are before returning. |

Then if Suter had any brains at all and agreed to a contract with the Oilers he would wait till he's a ufa and sign. Let his new team keep the pick.

Well played...
But their would be no agreement unless poile gave us permission to speak to him.
And in that case their would be a deal already in place.
Maybe he hadnt (as u said) even considered signing with us before this.
So in that case you're saying he would say no to a deal, and then go sign with us regardless?
Hmmmm. Seems a little fishy |

Staal is a very good player, and is only getting better. Easily could have had 35+ goals this season if he was healthy. Yakupov on the other hand is going to be a star sniper for a while. I don't think you can trade a player like Yakupov (potential franchise RW) for a player like Staal (2nd line two way scoring C). I do think Staal does have significant value since he will be an RFA after next season I believe and not a UFA. Just not enough to be worth the #1 pick. - zach parise9
Agree with this.
I cant think of a better 2nd line C for this team to grow with really, but not at the cost of the #1 pick.

If he wanted to play in Edmonton, which there is no chance, he would be smart enough to just wait till he's a UFA and sign there... im sure the Oilers would be more than willing to give him a very lucrative contract.

I generally agree with this sentiment. Especially for the great majority of draft picks. And ive argued your point exactly on occasion.
But
Based on previous number 1s for quite a number of years now, they seem to be pretty sure bets these days.*

Since 01 (ten years is a good sample size):
-01 Ilya Kovalchuk
-02 Rick Nash
-03 Marc-Andre Fleury
-04 Alexander Ovechkin
-05 Sidney Crosby
-06 Erik Johnson
-07 Patrick Kane
-08 Steven Stamkos
-09 John Tavares
-10 Taylor Hall
-11 Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
These guys who are saying he is a star have some history on their side as if you look at the list the only defenseman picked is the only non all star. Pick the all star forward end all discussions. |

Solid post. However I do want size in our top 6. I hope we acquire another first for Tom Wilson

If they were offered a signed and sealed Suter, I think I would stomp on Tambi's nuts if he turned it down. Too bad Nashville won't be doing that. |
