honestly I'm a university student I work 60-70 hours a week in the summer, to be able to afford the life decision that i make. My family is hardly middle class, I make enough money to cover myself and the people around me when they need it.

What I hear coming out of those Quebec students, it's a bunch of ungrateful spoiled (frank)s whining.

- Nastradamus

we all feel for you, but giving the choice would you rather work those 60-70 hours or that university be cheap enough so that you don't have to work at all?

you can't really blame the students for wanting to keep the advantages they have... that's like asking Gomez to take a pay-cut, everybody knows he should, but why the (frank) would he

Hey sorry for being unselfish and worrying about others having a chance to advance in life, even if they didn't have chance in their childhood.

I see where you're coming from but, nope, I would still work. Honestly I've learned a lot from having to earn my dollar, and my grades speak for themselves. A lot of my friends that are going through university off of OSAP and their parents dollar... well easily forget why they're even at university. (Which is even more tragic, if we're forcing the tax payer to take more off a hit, at our expense) You know, University students have FOUR months off a year, generally. Why not get a job, be responsible, help your parents? I have buddies that sit around jerking off playing xbox for 4 months at a time.

Hard work, builds character.

Honestly what you guys pay is literally a fraction of what we pay in Ontario, and literally PENNIES compared to what's paid south of the border.

It may feel like the morally just thing to do, and it probably is, but this pipedream's fantastic until someone has to pay for it (the tax payer's dollar of course, some of my socialist peers seem to think that the government can just print money when they need to spend it)

We have a great system in place, as is.

- Nastradamus

I don't agree, the system here is corrupted as hell, with whoever's at the helm mind you. (Québec)

I'm alright with the raise, but not a 75% for 5 year, or 87% in 7 years either, that's too much to swallow, you never see that raise anywhere else. Yes we should be paying more, but they should also look in the mirror and manage their budgets more efficiently. Instead of getting that suite, get a normal room. Do you really need a 1st class flight for a rector? Oh yeah you wanna look big... Oh.

Exactly, and 75% over the next 5 years is pretty ridiculous, I hope those are just projections.

You don't need to go clubbing 3 times a week, and bring home a different STD everytime, in order to have a fulfilling university experience.

Working 20 hours a week is not too much for a university kid, many people do it and have to pay a much higher tuition.

Maybe they don't get to party as much as the ones getting a free ride but thats it.

If they want to advance in life they will find a way, if they sit back and whine about it, they don't deserve a helping hand or any respect.

- Oilhab

There have been researches about it that say the you shouldn't work more than 15 hours a week to have the better grades.

They keep telling us that in the institutions.

You can work in the summer though, there's plenty of manual labour jobs that will pay handsomely.

I work in the summer, volunteer during the year.

Yup thing is I personally live in a smaller city, there aren't many jobs outside of the odd by surfaces like Crappy Tire, Home Depot and other services like restaurants.

And there is much more than tuition fees that you have to pay when you're a student, you must be aware.

When you have food, a place to pay, books, tuition, car insurances (because the community transport blows here) and so on, it starts to pile, especially when you have no support from your parents.

You then have to get loans with banks, that you'll have to pay for half of your career... And if you have to return to University if it's not working in what you studied in, not sure the bank's gonna loan you some more before you pay what you owe already.
