The Devils had more wins than the Flyers and one less point than the Flyers in regular season. The Devils are a very good team like the Flyers, as evident by them splitting the regular season series.

***In before many people point out the Devils 12 shootout wins versus the Flyers 4 and says "No shootouts in playoffs hahha!"

I was working and the "snub" conversation has sort of passed, but I wanted to make the point that Giroux played 10% of his total minutes this season short handed. Stamkos played 2.5%, while Malkin played 0.2%.

Malkin will win anyways and is deserving, as everyone is saying, but I wish stats looking at a player's overall game were more considered in talking about "valuable players".

- eayost

yep...

imo, Giroux with 1.21 pts/gm and a 48.1% Off Zone Start is a better candidate than Malkin and his 1.45 pts/gm and his 65.9% Off Zone Start (5-on-5).

12 wins in the skills competition, look at ROW for accurate win totals, which I believe the Flyers were 2nd behind the Rangers in the east.

Really? Trying to figure out how we'd ice this same team with Stamkos on it. Id imagine there would be a few holes in the roster.

At this point of the game, stats don't mean sh!t...
Congrats to Malkin in getting 50 goals and skating around with a happy face after you scored it...
this didn't matter in the playoffs----> thanks to Courts...

Did i read somewhere that when the Rangers won last night they had a ticker tape parade on the ice? confetti rained down on them.

What do you guys think about the NHL awards in general? For a league where as much as 20% of the games and 90% of the emphasis is playoff-related, I think it is a mistake to exclude the playoffs from consideration. Especially because that's when half of these writers actually see a bunch of the players. Think about it...there is only a single player award in postseason.

Things I would do:

1. At the minimum, the GM and Coach awards after the playoffs. That's how they are evaluated by their teams. It shouldn't necessarily go to the winning coach/Gm, either. But at least include it.

2. I would make any quantitative awards exclude the playoffs. Richard, Art Ross, Saving Grace, etc. based on regular season. But the qualitative awards (hart, vezina, calder etc should include playoffs. Doesn't mean a player not in playoffs can't win...but should at least include it.

3. Give the Hart Trophy only to skater. Goalies have their own. Goalies have an award for save percentage, fewest goals as well as the vezina.

4. Give Norris to top defensive d-man, and the Bobby Orr (or Coffey or whoever) to highest scoring d-man. Multiple awards for forwards and dmen based on stats...time to add for d-men too.

5. The NHL tolerates/embraces/promotes fighting (depending upon who you talk to) and yet has the Lady Byng but no award for tough guy.

6. If the NHL considers a player a rookie, then age shouldn't factor into decision.

Any thoughts on any of this?

Talbot had to have a root canal after the mishap yesterday. He's OK now. It was from a shot by Carle ("good thing it was him -- it was a muffin") but deflected by Wellwood ("I'll get him back").
