Makes sense. It's a regular season award, too, so I don't think that making the playoffs should be considered in the decision. Even so, I think Giroux's two way game was much more valuable than stamkos scoring 60 goals and 25% of his teams goals. Just seems scoring is the driving factor for that award, even though there already is an award for scoring

Fans might think this way but I seriously doubt any player does. The Devils had more wins this year than the Flyers and reg seaon matchup was tied 3-3.

I think the Flyers have stepped it up a notch and hope they build off the tremendous defensive performance in game 6 vs Pittsburgh.

I agree. Stamkos is a very worthy candidate. There are always snubs. Is just so happens Giroux didn't make the top 3. It's political and a lot of hype involved. Stamkos has been known as a star player for a number of years now. Giroux has just come into that realm. That's a factor.

I think Goaltending is up in the air. Marty is still Marty. He's older, not as dominant but he plays solid and still has the ability to steal a game here and there. That's very dangerous. If Philly wants to lean on Bryz regular season stats against Jersey, that's a bad idea, this is the playoffs and anything can happen.

I think Philly is the favorite but I don't think it's because they beat the Pens. The Pens were not ready for playoff hockey and took their foot off the gas against a team that was motivated to beat the holy hell out of them. The Flyers will have to make sure they do not make that same mistake.

Certainly, Stamkos was valuable to Tampa Bay. However, how worthy is that value if the team doesn't have success? Jonathan Quick was probably more valuable to the Kings than any other player was to any other team in the entire league. On top of that, the Kings made it to the playoffs. That alone makes his contributions to the Kings more worthy than Stamkos' contributions to the Lightning.

The Devils went 2-3-1 against the Flyers. One win was a shootout and one was the game where the Devils chased Bob

I see your point but disagree. If the award is player most valued to their team, then a teams success or record does not mean anything, IMO. Stamkos on Tampa would mean so much more than stamkos on the flyers because he carries Tampa while he'd be a scoring weapon here. Giroux would be more valuable because of his two way play. Does that make sense at all?

I just think its a case by case thing. Can't look directly at the teams record.

i'm not arguing that stamkos should be a finalist. my only argument is that he shouldn't simply be counted out because the team's d and goaltending are absolute butt and therefore they missed the playoffs.
