only 3 reasons why ANYBODY would be willing to become an oiler..

1)they were born there
2)they get overpayed a decent amount
3)the only way they can get sexually aroused is by watching their team get the 1st overall pick

buffalo isn't much better but i just help being realistic here.

Nobody wants to play for a team that has a history of losing. Edmonton, on the other hand, has a wealth of great young talent. Once they break through and begin to win consistently, they will have no difficulty bringing in the supplementary talent that gets them over the top. I see the Oilers staying in the fight for a playoff spot most of next season. Not sure they will make it, serious predictions start around the beginning of training camp.

Leafs supposedly being the preferred destination reveals that this is yet another of those baseless rumors spread by fools thinking Toronto is the center of the hockey world.

It's easier to believe Edmonton is (will be) on that list, the team actually looks like one that has a bright future.

Complex much dude? You have a sweet team and everyone knows it, why so angry?

You forgot that players like to think they can win the cup too....how many you have won in Buffalo so far? And looking forward who of Edm and Buf will have a better chance to win it??? we know the answer.....Edmonton will be where players will start asking to go to.

In about 4 years the only free agents the Oilers will need to worry about is their own and hope they handle it better then Chicago did.

lol...This is true. I'm just saying top free agents won't be beating down the Oilers door to come to a team where they won't get icetime cause you'll have a roster full of Stars already, and they will need to be creative to fit all of those forwards under the cap and keep the team competitive. I don't have any issues with Edmonton as a city or team and think it'll be a product of your own success drafting and developing more then anything.

Definitly but I cant see them keeping all those forward stars and be able to bring in the other pieces that they need. ( Goaler and Defence) They will have to sacrifice some of the young talent...maybe starting with this yr 1st to get a top D guy.

I'd say Paajarvi perhaps? Seriously though, any team willing to take that ridiculous contract should get him for dirt cheap... 2nd rounder tops IMO. Isn't Luongo signed until he's like 44? I'd be iffy about taking that contract on. I'd rather not take it on actually...

Bobby Lou can retire anytime with his cap hit coming off the books. PRV would get a wettie playing with the Sedin sisters.

Don't care for Luongo to be in EDM. He is better than Dubnyk and Bulin, but for both EDM and his sake, there is no match for his contract for the EDM's future outlook.

Hemsky to BOS is good, but I highly doubt BOS will trade Lucic, Hamilton, and a draft pick for Yakupov. Lucic may have a bad post season, but nothing to panic for BOS to toss him under the bus. I personally for the time being with Hemsky's value, it maybe BOS 1st round pick + Knight or Khudobin. Be nice if EDM can pry Rask from BOS with the 1st round pick.

I think MPS will be on the 2nd line with Gagner and Yakupov, Hemsky be traded. Teemu will probably be 3rd line with the experiment of a 2nd line for a bigger body presence, but I see his potential being a 3rd line checking role. I am going to hope for EDM to talk to STL for Stewart. As per TSN, Bulin, Omark, Gagner, MPS, and 1st round pick are on trade market. I don't see why EDM hasn't offer Petrell an offer. Maybe 2YR @ $2M.

It seems that edmonton fans are undervaluing Luongo by alot... he will surprise you in what he gets.

People look at his contract and think its ridiculous... when in reality its actually quite fair... he is way too competitive to play too past his prime... if he isn't a starter at age 38/39... he will retire... there is also another out clause where he can be traded in a few years.

If Gomez can be dealt and get a decent return... anyone can

That's up for debate because of the situation Mike Gillis is in. He's got his hands full dealing with an RFA who's poised to be the no.1 and a former all-star who wants out. GM's looking to deal for Luongo won't be offering much and Schneider can choose to accept his qualifying offer and then leave next year as a UFA. Gillis will have to choose to lose on one of them.

Does he keep an unhappy luongo and risk future results under him or does he accept a less than stellar offer for him and give the $$$ to schneider?

i think if vancouver were to deal with edmonton, they might have to accept horcoff. he's a 3rd line defensive checking center, just what the canucks need with pahlsson leaving.

if toronto, bozak would probably coming back in that package.

My guess is he rids himself of luongo for a high salary roster player, prospect, and maybe a mid round draft pick.

Agreed... I would think that would work for both teams... Horcoff was a former allstar and now can play a good 3rd line center role... They dump the near lifetime salary of Luongo - a proven tender that wants to leave...

Or Khabbi would be going the other way with a good prospect.

i think its a nice sentiment but where would he fit in? vancouver will have eddie lack playing backup next season. khabbi is stuck in e-town or banished to the minors or bought out.

Horcoff never belonged in that game, he only went because the Oilers had to send a guy.

Not our problem, but if the Oilers are taking on Lou's contract, Khabby has to leave.

Okay, here's a question I didn't even touch on in the blog: What if Luongo did submit a list, and it did have the Oilers name on it? And what if the Canucks were actually open to making a deal?

If you're the Oilers, are you interested? How much is good goaltender Luongo with his terrible contract worth? And please, don't say "Paajarvi". He's the default player everyone using whenever they talk about the Oilers making a deal. "Oh, we'll give you Paajarvi for..." Poor guy has been dealt 1,000 times already.

- Maxbone

I'd be interested, but it would have to be cheap and we'd have to include a poor contract.

Bulins makes the most sense, but with only one year left it's not that big of a deal.

If no $$ were going back, it would have to something small like say Peckham and a 3rd, or Peckham and swap of 1sts

If Horc went the other way, you could pay a little more (unlikely they'd do it) something like Horc + MPS for Luongo and something small.

Van isn't going to get much, and not only because of his ultra long contract, they have next to no leverage in this trade.

50 points in 53 games at the time. I'd bet he was top 10 in the conference in scoring when he went.
