I like Luongo, I think he can be and is a great goalie in this league.

Whether he is a Canuck next year, or not, I will always be a fan. He has been a class act in Vancouver, and other than a few slip ups in the media he has always put the team first.

Even in the media, remember the first time he chocked in the playoffs... he got teary. That's not really appropriate infront of the camera, but he's pure heart and passion.

It sure is funny how nobody wants that contract yet he a the talk of the league. He's worth way more than most say to any team without goaltending.

Seriously the definition of fair is luongo to Toronto for Jake Gardiner and Lombardi to equal cap

Is that the definition of fair in the anal stain of Canada?

its funny how 3 weeks ago the rest of the nhl was saying how crappy luongo is. now that he's available he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

im not a luongo fan. his problem is all mental. he's great until he's scored on, then he falls apart. byfuglien a couple years back won the series by himself. he's a great regular season goalie, but when the pressure is on... well you all know the rest.

So, to sum up from the juvenile haterz that have constantly talked down the guy since he was a great goalie on another team, Luongo might bring a 5th round pick if we are lucky.

Here's a few reasons why some of you kids are insane.

1- the contract is really only 6 years before its not that tough to just retire or get out from under with the team out written in. So, the contract is not that tough to deal. Richards was dealt with more years, and Carter was dealt twice with the same amount of years as Lui w/o the out!
2- There is not better statistical goalie of his generation. Find one with a career 929 save %. None. Brodeur is the only one close , and he is 5-6 years older. Many older goalies have been excellent in those later years that Lui is coming into. Timmy ( the only guy close on save %, and his is only in half the time! ) for one.
3- not only that goalies have historically played into the 40th year anyhow! All the way back to guys like Burke having their best seasons late in career. Hasek. Joseph. On and on and on with big names...
4- His cap hit is 5.3. The $$$ amount for the next 6 years is the same as the guys that are his peers right now as big name goalies on their teams. Yet his Cap value is in some cases 1.8 ish less!
5- there are multiple teams looking for a goalie.

I understand why my team is considering keeping Schneider. He is excellent, and will be cheaper. But Luongo is probably the best goalie on the market this year, the contract is, like I have shown above, not that egregious, and good value for his level of superlative goaltending.

It would be fine if he stayed too. Either way it is good for my team.

But the folks that just want to belittle and keep up the insults in the vein of the "greasy haired" guy, or whatever, thats just asinine.

The deal will be better than all the silly proposals I just waded through the last 13 pages, and the team that gets him will have far better goaltending than they do now.

And to his credit, he did a great job of accepting criticism on behalf of both the team and himself after losses. In many ways, he'd be a great captain if he wasn't a goalie: he's ultra-competitive, accepts responsibility without much excuse, and if what I'm hearing is true, is willing to move on if the situation in Vancouver isn't working for both sides.

No body said that. If you actually read these boards, its been said repeatedly its not what Luongo offers that's in question. It's his relative value and what teams would likely to give up for his combination of benefit and risk.

I think we'd be looking at a 3 way trade.

To Montreal - Luongo + Lecavelier
To Tampa - Price + Raymond
To Vancouver - Hedman + Malone

Tampa's the only team that really wins in this scenario. Sure Vancouver gets rid of Luongo and Raymond, but I'm not sure Hedman and Malone is the answer you're looking for.

Any team that gets Raymond loses by default.

I would say if Montreal has an untouchable, during their worst season in many many years, I would say Price is it.

Why yes, it is rather excellent. Taking luongo contract off the canucks hands is all we need. In all reality, we gave up bertuzzi, #6 dman, and a career backup goalie. Just walk away from the contract gillis

What teams has he officially approved??

I heard NJ, Tampa, Florida, Washington and not sure who else. Can anyone confirm these are the teams and who was the other team??

As for Columbus, I'm pretty sure Johansen is untouchable. They wouldn't include him in the Carter trade with Philly.

Don't you find it ironic that the so called teams he's approved are the ones that need a goalie?

The media fabricated this list, nothing has come out as of yet. But yes, those teams would be interested in acquiring Luongo.

The TSN panel is on, can't wait to hear what they think...

irrelevent...look at other long term contracts...LUO is better player-positionally than Gomez..or Drury......just too name a few, and better the Depietro in NYI....

It's the answer I'd love. A big top 4 defenseman and a power forward. Sold.
