I never mentioned getting him UG. Please stay with me here.

You were all over his stats and how great a goalie he was.

- IronMaidnick

Nope. Just that he was better than who the Leafs had now.

Now you say he wasn't good enough to get through the series.

He wasn't. That's a fact. Doesn't change the previous fact that he's a better goalie than who the Leafs have.

Try to keep up.

Kesler's Stats:

Year Gms G A Pts +/-
2003-2004 28 2 3 5 -2
2005-2006 82 10 13 23 1
2006-2007 48 6 10 16 1

2009-2010 82 25 50 75 1
2010-2011 82 41 32 73 24
2011-2012 77 22 27 49 11

Nash's Stats

Year Gms G A Pts +/-
2002-2003 74 17 22 39 -27
2003-2004 80 41 16 57 -35
2005-2006 54 31 23 54 5
2006-2007 75 27 30 57 -8
2007-2008 80 38 31 69 2
2008-2009 78 40 39 79 11
2009-2010 76 33 34 67 -2
2010-2011 75 32 34 66 2
2011-2012 82 30 29 59 -19

To me, Kesler is much better in +/- but Nash has been far more consistent in points. He's been mid 50's to mid 60's every year except his 1st where he was under that and his 6th where he had a career high.

Kesler only really had 3 good seasons. 2 in the mid 70's and 1 just under 60 points. Other than that, he hasn't hit 50 points at any other time in his career. And only hit the 40pt mark in ONE other season. And considering that Kesler played only 1 season LESS than Nash, I would say Nash is a better overall player. The +/- isn't all the relevant when you consider that Columbus has NEVER had any good defensive players.

I would not say that Kesler and Nash are the same or even close to the same player. Nash is a much better and consistent player statistically.

- Domaju

You're right +/- is irrelevant, but they don't hand out the Selke or judge someone defensively entirely on +/-.

Kesler started as a 4th liner and then a 3rd liner, so his early numbers are lower. Kesler and Nash's career-best points/goals are very similar, and both have never had elite linemates (Kesler does get some pp time with the sedins).

The difference is Kesler is, as I said, one of the best defensive forwards in the game, whereas Nash is, at best, average defensively. Nash is one of the most overrated players in the game. He is a 60-75 point player with a cap hit of 7.8 mill. Kesler is a 60-75 player who can excel defensively and has a hit of 5.5 mill.

Kesler > Nash.

If the Leafs were a solid contender right now, I would say (frank) it, take on the Luongo contract and just deal with the possible aftermath of that contract later. If you were looking at five years of serious contention, sure. Even then I'm saying it has real risk.

But right now? The Leafs would get the last few prime years out of the contact while they aren't solid enough to win anyway. I know Lu is Nonis and Allaire's guy, but I just don't see the Leafs stomaching the contract.

Having said that Lu gets totally scapegoated in Van...show me where they lost because he alone choked. MA Fleury choked this year....Lu just played great on a team that fell short. He can't score goals in the finals himself.

Schneider losing is irrelevant. Fact is, Luongo lost his job. He didn't finish the series and it was because he wasn't good enough. Just like he wasn't good enough last year.

Now you say he wasn't good enough to get through the series.

He wasn't. Fact. If he was, he wouldn't have lost his job and the Canucks would still be in the playoffs.
