Then have fun with Reimer next year...

Going to be an interesting summer for sure for the Leafs. They can either stick to the rebuild or blow their load on a bunch of vets... But the status quo can't be the plan for next year.

Might be a few 'tenders out there this summer.

Tuckers cap hit has been the same since day 1 averaged.....TB's hit for buying out Prospal is averaged....
- Fruitcakenipple

It depends how the original contract was structured. If the salary per yer was the same then the buyout is the same, if the salary per year varies then so does the buyout.

That's fun to talk about but completely irrelevant. No chance he's bought out. His contract was clearly created with retirement in mind.
- The Law

Oh its relevant when it comes to Trades and assigning a value to that person.

The Canucks can advertise Luongo as available, but cant say...dont worry other teams, we built a contract that circumvents the cap, he will retire at 39.

Its a risk the other team is taking, and they are crazy to ignore it and assume he will walk away

LOL...U think Luongo will be the only goaltender available this summer
???....

U want the Leafs to deal for him so u can laugh at it after...run along...

- Fruitcakenipple

Harding is available, Vokoun is available, Berneir can still be had via trade.

There's no reason to trade top prospects for Luongo, his contract is not worth it and he's too old to have the same window of opportunity that the Leafs roster needs. He's too old and the team is too young.

Fans are starting to under-rate him.
- jbold

Not his skill level though, just his worth in comparison to his contract/price tag.

I still don't see how people can assume he will retire.

Multi-millionaires don't play back up at age 39 for chump change.

Gardiner, MacArthur + 1st would get the job done.

If the plan is to trade for Luongo because you fully believe that he will happily walk away from the game and retire early, well, that has backfire written all over it. Doesn't matter who the team is.

If this trade goes down, I look forward to the discussion 5 years from now about this move.

Pretty sure they could land a lot better then Luongo for that price.

Not sure that I'd even move Gardiner for Luongo 1 for 1.

Like I said, Luongo's window of opportunity is small because of his age. The Leafs are so young and still need time to develop and adjust the roster. By the time the leafs are ready to do any damage Luongo will be 36, 37 at best.

The list of teams who want that contract is going to be very short....MG doesn't hold the upper hand in this one if moving Lou is a must.....

Gillis said he wants to add toughness upfront, so I expect him to target Malone in a deal with Tampa

Cause there's zero evidence or proof that Luongo will walk away for the last 4-5 years.

He can stay and sit on the bench while taking up valuable cap space if he wants to, at which the "backfire" part kicks in.
