the whole smallball think is a thread in and of itself, but i agree with the gist of what you're saying. players seem to like playing for chuck--and there's something to be said for that--but i absolutely do not trust him handling a bench and bullpen in close games.

so long as they have replacement-level players at multiple positions every day, they're going to be in tough.

Exactly. You said it better than I did. Not so much small ball per se, but having to manage with less margin for error since we're missing so much offense. I agree that Charlie's bullpen and bench handling is below average at best, and at times mind bogglingly bad. We're not likely to have enough runs this year to offset his mistakes.
