Bryzgalov tossed off a couple of funny lines today despite trying to say as little as possible.

Asked how the guys on the team could stay fresh this week, he said, "Eat more veggies."

Asked by a reporter about what it's like to play for Peter Laviolette, he said, "Sorry. I don't have flash card." (That's a reference to team giving him a set of cards with questions he can expect, and how he should answer them).

Do you think Lavy is harder on him than he's used to with Tippet?

Thats good news. Do you think the Flyers will start to move JvR up in the lineup? How much more time does he need to get up to speed?
- stveshdy

I was thinking this earlier, but forgot to say anything...

Since Simmonds and Hartnell create all kinds of havoc in front of the net on the Power Play, why not put them with Briere, who will find the holes in the ice if teams go down to put 2 guys on Hartnell and Simmonds... Then you can move JVR up to Giroux line.

JVR-Giroux-Jagr
Hartnell-Briere-Simmonds
Read-Schenn-Voracek
Talbot-Couturier-Wellwood.

To some degree. But the bigger adjustment has been to Jeff Reese as goalie coach after being used to Sean Burke. Reese is more hands-on from a technical critique/correction standpoint.

Grossmann and Meszaros both did the "taking it one day at a time" cliche when asked about their status. Meszaros did say he's not ready yet, and still has good days and bad days with his back.

I am starting to think Grossmann will be ready for Game 1. He really pushed himself today, despite the no-contact jersey. He took a lot of reps on 2-on-1 drills (more than Meszaros did).

That's really good.

Do you think Bryzgalov will let in far less goals next series regardless of who we play?

Do you think JVR will shine next series or will he still be getting back into the groove?
- 2Real

He said he felt better in Game 6 than Game 5 and better each of the last two days than in Game 6, so he feels like it's getting there.

My own view is that he still looks like he has a ways to go to get back to full speed.

Yea I remember there was mention of this earlier in the season. I think that will pay off longterm for Bryzgalov, I really do. It seemed to finally all click for him this year toward the end, unfortunately the foot injury happened. Thanks Bill, that's some knowledge you won't get from other outlets!

Hopefully! Don't think the Flyers will be able to give him as much goal support as he got in round one. Noticed today that he was testing his lateral movement more than in previous days, so that was a good sign.

Style of play in the games will also play in, of course.

Not sure who heard this on WIP today, but Jonesy made some very interesting comments in comparing Giroux and Forsberg.

He said they both have the skill level and complete package to take over games, but that Giroux is different than Forsberg in that G wants to be "the guy". Forsberg never wanted to be the guy and he had Sakic to take that role when he played with Colorado.

Then he said this. "I was on a line with Forsberg from time to time, and when we played against Lindros he would tell me to take the draws because Lindros would try to run him over at every faceoff."

I just found that to be a remarkable bit of insight on the whole Forsberg/Lindros dynamic. The two will always be linked because of "the trade".

The 1975 Flyers are the last Stanley Cup championship team to be comprised solely of Canadian-born players.

huh

This is a fact I use very often in my arguments with Habs, Leafs, and Sens fans who ask me.. how can you cheer for an American team. I say, how can you cheer for teams comprised of more Euros and Americans than my team?? Man that confuses people.

Good to hear about Bryz. I can't remember, what was the original timeline for him to be fully healed from the bone chip in his foot?

We have so many great Canadian hockey players we can afford to export.

Also, you Americans would be even more boring if we didn't export our Comedians and musicians. I betcha couldn't live without Nickelback!

I'm looking at the Canadian teams, and for the most part I'm thinking no, they can't afford to export

As for Nickelback, that's a bet I'm quite willing to take

TRIVIA TIME

Can anyone name the player whom the Flyers acquired in trading Mikael Renberg in '97-'98?

Hint - The trade was pretty much reversed 2 years later.
