What about the ever more probable "Bring in Patrick Marleau or Joe Thornton" movement?
- AdamFrench

Either will cost too much, and arent really what the team needs to spend money on right now. Id love Joe, but we have limited assets to bring in some bigger roled players.

Ya.... I know you don't remember what playoff hockey feels like to watch... but its amazing... and I equate 1 playoff round to 2 years of regular season hockey.

Sure, because you watched LA play 5 games of it?

I have a feeling Wash will use that or their own 1st rounder to get Luongo....Lou's $$$$ will replace Semin's $$$......and if Brodeur retires, his $$$ can be replaced by Luongo's as well....TB will realistically have to either trade Malone to accomodate Luongo's $$ or trade Vinny (which I doubt unless Gomez becomes a Bulldog )...Panthers would have to trade one of their insane contracts from last year to fit Lou....

Luongo............

Most feel Toronto would not be a good fit.....he may be the only fit....

A team like TB who has shakey ownership and allready has many long expensive conracts, in my opinion isn't going to take on that kind of Burden. I expect Tb to go after a Harding or Bernier.

FLA- forget it , they have Markstrom on the way and don't need a Luongo

NJ- Perhaps with Marty getting on in years, Lamarilo would make a move to keep his Goaltending top notch- something tells me they don't have the cash

Luongo is a perfect fit for Toronto: A) we can afford him and his cap hit isn't that bad. B) He is exactly what Toronto needs, go back 20 years and the only success that has been enjoyed outside of Potvin has come with a stellar goalie (Curtis J. Eddie B.)

C) Luongo thrives when he faces more shots...in Tor he will get plenty

D) he IS a big game goalie, sure he didn't win the cup last year but he has a gold medal and several Vezina nominations. he has played over 50 games in the last 2 president trophy seasons.

E) He is an Elite goalie, and exactly what Brian burke needs to make this team playoff bound

D) The price won't be high, Van knows they will be dealing with very few teams and his contract is crazy long. Clearing cap space is the biggest return the Nucks will see. 2 mid level prospects and a second rounder will get it done.

The only other real threat to obtain Luongo is Chicago, and ultimately they may have better pieces to give back.....in the end, It will be Toronto who gets Luongo because Brian Burke can't afford not to. He has wussy footed for 3 years with his goaltending hoping one of Reimer or Monster would establish them selves as a number 1 and neither has........It just makes too much sense for the Leafs not to get him.

Washington makes a lot of sense.

TB doesn't. I'd think they'd rather get a younger, cheaper guy to build with.

FLA doesn't make sense because they have a very good young guy coming.

CHI makes some sense, but I don't see VAN dealing with CHI..... same with TOR.

I have read that Lou's contract contains 2 "out" clauses, 1 team and 1 player....that makes a trade for him and his contract more appealing that what the contract appears to be..be nice to have more info on these "out" clauses.....

Luongo Clause:

NTC (player can supply five-team trade list following final game of 2013-14, valid through July 15, 2014; if player does not submit trade list at that time, team can request a five-team trade list following final game of 2017-18 season, valid through Sept. 1, 2018). If player submitted a trade list in 2014 and was not moved, team loses right to request trade list in 2018.

I would think that best case scenario for Gillis is to trade Lou to East conf, and NOT Toronto

Thanks! ...and isn't it true that once a player waives his NTC and gets traded, his NTC becomes null and void for the rest of the contract?

Do you think that Burke cares that far ahead?? He's probably only concerned about this year and maybe the next 3years. for the next 3-4 years he's a good deal.

I don't see TB as an option. The financials, the commitments to players already there and I think they'd rather a younger guy they can build with.

Yes.

I don't think any GM is looking that far in advance (that's why they do those ridiculous deals in the first place). Whatever helps in the foreseeable future.

That said that deal is still against what Burke has spoken out about in the past..... will he accept it on the terms that "hey I didn't sign it so it's not against my principles"?

got the craziest email this past week from a Canucks fan saying, "I am really concerned about Schneider playing in the playoffs...." (so you are probably thinking as I was, "sure he hasn't played in nearly as many games as Luongo he might struggle" but read on) and he continued, "What if Schneider plays so well we win the Cup with him? What will we do with Luongo next year? With his contract being so long, etc?"

What happens??? "You win the freaking CUP is what happens!" I responded.

that same scenario almost happened with Montreal and Halak/Price
