You know you don't have a hockey market when after two pages of every thread you are talking about a different sport.
Short live long island - DowJones
is this coming from the guy who up until this past year didnt have a team to root for since 1996 simply because there WASNT a hockey market? |

If you trade him in the off season you will have paid him 10 million, you trade him next season you will have paid him 18 million... when he starts making 2.8 a season you have no idea where his game is going to go... he could be over paid even at THAT price.. he could be a steal at that price... right now he's not.
and you can tell me his cap hit 15 more ways.. it still wont matter to me.
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
1. We didnt sign him to a 10 year deal to trade him after 2 years.
2. He's 28, he's in his prime, not just going to stop playing cause he got paid, he's getting paid no matter what.
3. He will not be over paid at 2.8 million, that is the risk you take when you sign Free agents, you yourself said you would have like him here, what if you signed him for 6 million a year with nothing up front? The same concerns can be used for anyone under contract. What if he stopped playing after 2 seasons at 6 million? You would be in 10x worse shape. You would rather be on the hook for 5 or 6 million a year when YOU have no idea where his game is going to go in 2 years. Your argument makes no sense, your not the owner paying him the money, it doesnt affect the teams cap hit or affect you adding other pieces, bottom line. |

No, it was Pegula not Ehrhoff who made that deal work, the whole point of paying him all that money up front was so that they could keep there cap hit down so they could sign Leino. of course Ehrhoff wasnt gonna complain about the deal, but Hoff was about to get 5-6 million per year on the open market. Pegula made it work for 4 mil a year. - sbroads24

Because your owner is literally paying him 4.5 million a season. Not just a cap hit. Plus it affects the Islanders more cause Wang doesnt spend near to the cap. |

1)Free Agents are signed all the time, none are expected to be traded before the contract is up... ALOT are.
2)I didnt say he was going to stop playing, but his game could go south
3)If his game goes south he could be over paid at 2.8 (im not saying its GONNA happen, but it could we dont know) I wouldnt pay him 6 million a year either... You dont think a 10 million dollar payout or an 8 million dollar payout have no affect in the locker room... ill beg to differ with you on that.

I really dont. Why would it? In two years he will be being paid 3 million less a year than Tyler Myers. The players all want to get paid, Ehrhoff got his pay day, so does every player that preforms. if you wanna argue the contract length then you have a valid point. 10 yrs is too long, but the 10 mill and 8 mil is completely irrelevant in evey way you look at it. A 40 million dollar contract over 10 years is just that. He could be getting paid 39 million this year and 110k for 9 years and it would be a 40 million dollar contract over 10 years. How it is paid out has no bearing on anyone else but Pegula and Ehrhoff, no one else in the locker room. |

It would make sense to build a new Islanders coliseum in Queens next to Citifield stadium. At least we could get rid of those tires stores out of the way. It is a perfect destination for Islanders fans from NYC and Nassau and Suffolk. Of course it would be far for me but at least it is not out of New York. |

Wasn't there an RFP deadline already for where an arena would go in Queens? If I remember right, Wang never even submitted a proposal. Probably because of the strange "media blackout," but he doesn't seem overly interested in working with other local options. |

I can't agree with that. I really don't understand the salary argument. When you're talking about the Isles, why is salary even a consideration? Who cares if Ehrhoff is "overpaid"? The isles are consistently below the salary floor and only "reach" the floor due to buy outs and a BS loophole that lets Wang and Snow rush prospects to the NHL so their unattainable bonuses count against the cap. I would have much rather paid Ehrhoff $10M this year to play for the Isles than to trade for Rolston and to rush Nino to the NHL when he clearly wasn't ready just to get over the floor.
Ehrhoff is far better than any of the Isles d-men with the notable exception of Hamonic and possibly Streit, when Streit is actually playing well. Snow recognized this, that's why he tried to get him to sign. I would have loved to have him on the Isles this season instead of Mottau, Jurcina and Eaton, regardless of salary. - Jethro09

I have no clue about that but ofc Wang is a greedy owner who wants to make a profit. He wants to set a Wang dream land so he can be god in this town. Sometimes I wonder if he really wants to make Islanders stay in Long Island forever. |

how naive are you?? no, he doesnt want the islanders to be on long islander forever, unless it makes him money....if it doesnt, hell pick them up and find somewhere that does make him a profit....dont fool yourself, all he wants (and EVERY SINGLE SPORTS OWNER wants) is money, money, money |

Gonna have to agree with the post above me. Of course Wang is going to say he wants to keep the Islanders on Long Island and, even to a certain degree, I'm sure that he does. But the second this guy sees a more profitable option elsewhere you can bet your balls he's going to take it. He's a businessman far before anything else. |
