My take:
Flyers D hasn't been good enough and the goalie is obviously hindered by injury (I'd still take injured-Bryz over Bob). They were able to make up for their depleted Defense and injured goalie by scoring lots of goals on a Pens team that was playing worse D and had poorer goaltending. The Pens resorted to goon tactics to beat-up some of the Flyers effective players (I think Schenn, Coots and Roo may be playing with concussion symptoms and Grossman is out). The Pens goon tactics took a toll, their goaltending improved and they tightened up their defensive game. Giving up 10 goals shook a young battered Flyers team. The Flyers played a solid game 5, were ineffective 5 on 5 and played a poor second period.

It seems unlikely that the Bryz will steal a game for the Flyers in the near future. I was disgusted by the 10-3 loss but actually feel a little reassured by the improved game 5 they played. Maybe things were just getting a little too easy for this team? Maybe the 10-3 loss was the punch in the face they needed? I hope so. They have two games to win one...the odds are in the Flyers favor.

Honestly I've been told for most of the season that bryz hadn't stolen a game all year when he had a plethora of 1 goal allowed games, and even a shutout that the Flyers couldn't get for over a calendar year. I argued this play better defense and the goaltending will improve, especially with a goalie like Bryzgalov. The Flyers did play better defense late in the season and he in turn set a franchise record for shutouts. That still isn't good enough,

So I will rest with this look at Brian Elliot and how he's doing.

No Grossmann today.

BTW, saw something today I've never seen before: Dan Bylsma, along with Ray Shero and Bill Guerin were in the commissary before the game. Have seen plenty of GMs, scouts and team officials there on game days but never the opposing coach.

Winning game 6 in front of the Flyers fans against the Penguins, is huge

No reason the Flyers cant win todays game. Home ice advantage and coming off of two straight loses. The intensity level should be sky high and they need to continue what they we're doing in the third period of last game.

Why unreal? Playing with a concussion is NOT smart. Player is usually ineffective even if he doesn't get worse in terms of his symptoms. It's a huge risk that rarely yields a reward.

I had hoped it wasn't a concussion being he practiced yesterday. I think everyone had some hope he would play today.

Bill you think Lavi gives JvR some shifts with the top lines today? Should we expect him to play on the 4th line much of the game? I'm curious to see how his legs will react because this is his second game.

How would game 7 be 50-50? You have a goalie who is at best 70%, another who is getting hot. Your best D-man in the series is out. A Vet D (Kubina) is very impaired. Another top 4 guy (Meszy) is long out. The top 3 of our D would be absolutely pooped. Danny has a bad back and other injuries which keep him from his usual hustle. You have young players who are clearly feeling the pressure against a vet team which came down from 3-2 to win the Stanley Cup, playing in their building. They would be on a 3 game roll.

50-50 is an assessment of faith, not of reason.

How would it not be 50-50? At that point they would have played 6 games. And each team would have won 3. That's 50-50. Game 7 would be no different. I can think of plenty of reasons why it would be 50-50. And it's definitely not an assessment of faith. Score a few early goals against Fleury and see what happens. If all of what you say is true, why even play the last two games? And Grossmann isn't our best defenseman. He's a key player, but he's becoming folklore all of a sudden. The Flyers have 3 very good other defenseman, and some other players that are capable. And those 3 are fully capable of playing those minutes for 2 more games. Briere didn't look injured in game 5. He's fine. A lot of players are dealing with physical issues. The Flyers were on a 3 game roll, and what happened? 3 game rolls can be stopped. Flyers have some pretty good players such as Giroux that can take over a game. And so do the Pens. Again that's 50-50.

He's in for Gustafsson, and not Kubina or Lilja. That makes zero sense to me.
