2 yrs left. I think 5.33 cap hit. next year 5.33 and the final yr 1.5 actual money. - whipper334
That won't work in Toronto then. They go out of their way to spend extra money. Just look at the Ron Wilson extension. |

What the hell does that even mean?
Are they going to close their eyes and pursue "Stars" that they pull out of a hat? - djnicko
I laughed at that too. Maybe they are going to borrow the NHL Supplemental Discipline roulette wheel from Shanahan and put a bunch of NHL star players on it. Then Burke will spin it twice to see which two random players they will acquire!

Wierdoh watch the NCIS from Tuesday night they worked in the arrow in the knee line.
Oh and I don't believe Burke is going to go all in on Nash when the Leafs need to get tougher. |

Haha good for you leafs. Add MORE wingers without having any good centers. Burke is gonna spend all the cap space on those two and you'll still have no center or goalie....enjoy! |

Here is what Toronto needs to do if they want to regain significance:
1) Trade 2 or 3 of their current stars..Yes, that includes Kessel. Load up on Draft Picks/Projects that are 2 years outs of making it to the NHL
2) Trade their 1st Round Draft pick this year..Load up on Picks/Projects
3) Go into the 2013 season with a payroll of around 50 million and KEEP it there. Put all the young talent you have in the organization on the ice. Time to find out who has talent and who doesn't in 2013.
4) At the Trade deadline, trade away the players who aren't going to be part of the core 3 and 4 years out. Start signing the talent you think will be part of the core.
5) Come the 2014 Draft, load up using your draft picks. Keep the Payroll at around 50 million for 2014 year. It isn't your year yet.
6) Come the 2015 season, you will have a wealth of young talent that will represent your core. Add a veteran or two to establish leadership and mentor the youth. Make a push for the playoffs. Keep the payroll no more then 55 million.
7) By the 2016 season, you are there. You have youth, depth, and money to spend. - dgutzman
step in to my office. YOU ARE FIRED.
No way Toronto fan are okay with waiting. There is be another team in the Toronto area before fans are okay with waiting like that.
They are building that new arena in Markham.

You know they all do I mean its coming from Ek and the fans from other teams know that when it comes to Ek and his rumors about the Leafs and what they are going to do it always comes true.
Remember the Summer of Kaberle and how right Ek was about that? |

Go ahead and fire me..And then sit back and enjoy another 50 years without the CUP. In the new NHL, there is competitive balance..You can't just buy a team every year. Leafs fans have to remember that there are more then 6 teams in the league. YOu have to build from within. And sometimes, that means, you have to sell out and start from scratch. I would even go as far as saying that if you don't have at least 14 guys on your team that you drafted, you are doomed to fail in the long run.

If anything this logic applies the least to the Leafs. They will sell out every game regaurdless of how the team performs. I'm sure if the Oilers could survive their recent run of terribleness if would be easy for the Leafs. |
