If they're trying to sell a UFA on signing in Toronto, by saying they're going hard after Nash, than it must be someone in Nashville. Considering they had to be sold to stay in Nashville,Preds bringing in guys like Gaustad and Gill - jbold
No significant UFA will sign in Toronto with or without Nash IMO. Why would they?

Most great UFA are either going after the biggest contract and/or a very competitive contract with AN ALREADY strong team.
If Leafs want the top UFA's....they will have to be the team paying the most until they are a strong team that competes for the cup, not to try to make the playoffs. Same in MTL.
I have never seen the Leafs in such a sad state. I don't see anybody dealing with them, nor do I see any UFA wanting to sign here.
Things have gone from bad to worse to abysmal.
Marlies doing well in the playoffs would be the only positive, If they bow out early, then .... - gojets
After I said: Morons. Too many people are squawking about the leafs having a terrible season. That could't be more wrong. The leafs had a terrible collapse - that's certain. However, they showed some moments of true brilliance - and then faltered soon to implode completely. It was curious considering the tear they were on. Anyhow, the leafs have something in quite a few of our current players, and then some competing for the Calder Cup this year.
You proved my point, why are you arguing with me? - A_Tree
No I didn't prove your point. We played a good season, and shat the bed when it mattered most. My post was not the least bit optimistic about this roster and the potential it has. Things need to change with it. In order for me to disagree with you, would I have had to deny that the leafs played a good first half of the year? I would be stupid to deny that. They were 6thish in the league before the slide, but then they slid, bad. This team is not playoff calibre, let alone stanley cup competitive, and that is my point.
There were no moments of "true brilliance", Kessel and Lupul had good runs, but we were by no means top 3 in the conference for extended periods of time to warrant the title of "brilliance".
Right... smoking something again there Ek? No "star player" in their right mind would want to go to T.O.... Why.. so you can be apart of a team that doesn't win a cup for another 40 years... they have no promise or anything there.
Don't get me wrong... the Oilers have done jack crap the last 6 years too.. but at least they have POTENTIAL with Ebs, Hall, Nuge, AND Yaks when they draft him... what do the Leafs have?
Hmmmm... deathly silence... I thought so... NOTHING.
Toronto and their fans might think they are the center of the universe.. but when your team has done nothing to compete for the last what is now, 7 years out of the playoffs, who in the hell would want to play there. Not Rick Nash after he's played in Columbus for so long with no playoffs... And if the UFA is Ryan Suter you can forget that pipedream... those guys will sign with teams that have a chance at the cup next season... Personally I think Suter resigns with the Preds because I can see the Preds going all the way to the Cup final... The way Rinne is playing... they will be very tough to beat.... As for Nash... he will be traded to whoever gives Columbus the biggest bang for the buck... and that sure is not T.O.... Frick the Oilers have more to offer just in Yakupov alone than anything T.O. has... But I wouldn't want Nash.. great player.. contract is huge... you are tying your hands long term if you take him on...
