Huge loss he was playing well. Have to get it done without him.

Pens are playing without stalwarts Martin, and Asham so the injuries/suspensions even out.

With Briere, the bad back is the immediate concern.

Get the man a Brace, a Shot, and a pat on the Arse, and get his butt out there. A pain in the back is a hell of a long way from the heart. Candy Rear!

I hope JVR plays and I hope Wellwood moves to the Couts line. I said here I was pretty sure Bryz was hurt. I hope they give Bob plenty of practice, for he will probably play tonight.

Briere will be in the lineup tonight, not worried about him.

IF the Penguins continue their shanahangans and decimate our lineup I expect this Speech from lavy as he inserts Sestito Rinaldo and Shelley into the lineup

That's what actually did happen to Mikael Renberg in 1997. Got sliced upward from his chin to near his nose by Randy Cunneyworth's skate. (To add insult to injury, Paul Stewart called Renberg for holding because he grabbed onto Cunneyworth as he fell to the ice).

Rennie took over 200 micro-sized stitches in the hospital and was released the next morning. Less than 24 hours later, he showed up for practice and had to be told by Terry Murray there was no way in hell he was practicing like that. The day after that, he did practice.

- bmeltzer

Was there for that. Second scariest thing I ever saw at a game (first was Svoboda being laid out by Bureau). I don't care how tough a guy you are, you gotta wear a shield. If Rennie hadn't been wearing one, instead of the cut going up his cheek and then detouring across his nose he'd have lost an eye.

Concussions this year:

Pronger
Read
Giroux
JVR
Briere
Schenn
Couturier (?)
MAB (2)
Voracek (?)
Grossmann

Not sure if Couturier, and Voracek were officially listed as concussions, but they missed games due to head injuries. Unless I'm missing something that's 11 concussions in one season. Just absolutely insane.

- PLindbergh31

something tells me this is probably about average for most nhl teams all the time the only difference is now they're betting at diagnosing them. fully believe that. maybe the speed and lack of obstruction contributes a bit, but what used to be "flu-like symptoms" i guarantee were concussions.

read, giroux, couturier, and voracek all reported their symptoms immediately ( or they were obvious) and were kept out of action and given a few days to rest and once the headaches stopped, took things a day at a time and were good to go within a week or 10 days. there will be a lot more of that and less of the longer-term ones so long as guys are honest about their symptoms.

all bets are off in the playoffs. but everyone knows that playoff concussions don't end careers. just the regular season ones.

I agree with everything you say here with the exception of 11 diagnosed concussions being average for most teams. How many Rangers players missed games due to concussion this year?

Which in turn may well depend on his injury. I think the guy is hurt and with a team like the Pens, there's a decent chance Bob sees time.

anomaly. maybe 11 is high, but guarantee at least a half a dozen for most teams.

Well one thing we agree on is concussions have skyrocketed in the NHL due to as you said better diagnosis.

Amazing in the 70's when players didn't even wear helmets concussions were unheard of for the most part. Guys just played through them.

Bill/anyone can you explain to me why the league didnt look at either head shot that grossman took? Both were plane as day and are now causing him to miss time.

Had a bad feeling about Wednesday. Now we are down men and facing adversity. I have a good feeling tonight.
