And Halak and Smith getting ran over
- nhindian

Halak got ran over by his own team right? I haven't watched much of that series, I'm going to watch it tonight. Nice that St. Louis can replace Halak with a guy who had 9 shutouts in 35 starts or something insane like that.

Vokoun and Nuevirth are injured, and the Caps third guy is eating Thomas' lunch.

Holtby does look good. That Mike Smith is something else.

I've always thought Holtby would emerge as a starter. He's been Gold this series..

Served my time, watched last night in silence. That was a disaster, they need to close this out tomorrow. What's the word on Grossmann or is it still just UBI?

really holtby is eating thomas's lunch? Uh the score is only 2-1 and the caps are down in that series that isn't eating anyone's lunch. Also the caps are giving him a lot of help, there aren't many second chances for the Bruins on any rebounds becuase the caps are cleaning it up.
- JoeRussomanno

Holtby is the only reason the series isnt 3-0 and that the Caps are even in every game. Dude has been amazing.

It's amazing what a goalie can do when his team commits to defense.

That is my biggest takeaway from the game tonight. Any rebound he gives up the defensmen and sometimes offensemen are there to get it out of harm's way.

Bryz needs that kind of help tomorrow.

Interesting article..

What is it about Philly and goalies

- nhindian

Though a career minor leaguer and a journeyman took us to within 2 games of the SC in 2010.

Weird.

Commits to defense? He's facing 35 shots a game in this series, he's been under siege.

I saw the press conf with Laviolette today, he said in game 3, the Penguins had single digits with the number of scoring chances they had, if that is the case why the hell did Pittsburgh score 4 goals?

Holtby has been excellent. You can always use that "committed to defense" line with any goalie who is/isnt performing. Even when Boston has had its quality scoring chances he has slammed the door. You have to also credit the goaltender when hes playing well.

If i don't see team giving a goalie help I won't jump on the goalie's back. If I do see the team giving help and yet the goalie is completely inept, good example is Leighton in last year's game 6 against buffalo, then yea I jump all over the goalie. I backed up Boucher last year too until he gave up that god awful goal that went under his stick and through the five hole in game 3 against boston (pretty sure it was that game).
Right now in this series, the Defensive effort was average against a monster offensive team and yet we are still up on them. The game last night was a complete lack of effort defensively. Sure Bryz and Bob gave up bad goals but if they don't get the team to play in front of them it's all for naught anyway.

This is bad if Bryz is hurt. I seem to remember coming back down 0-3 because Boston had all those injuries. One beign to thomas. We should be able to close this out but the body count isn't helping.

WTF @ the clock not starting in the WSH-BOS game.

If Boston would've scored that would've been a disaster.

Number of shots is irrelevant. Boston is getting almost no rebounds because Washington cleans it up. The FLyers had two goals scored against that I can think of because they stood around and let the penguins beat them to the rebound.

Yep. Embarrassment of riches in goal in STL.

Not sure how the goalies themselves would feel about it though. They both had excellent seasons but they'll never get accolades when they both have to share the net

He's posting a 1.77 GAA and a .942 SV% before this game (even lower now). How could anybody not be impressed with that?

No the team is buying into Hunter's system and it's kind of scary. Holtby has done what is asked off him but he's had some juicy rebounds in the crease but the caps clean it up.

This is why the boys needed to close it out yesterday, but that didn't happen so now the deal with other issues. The must win tomorrow, rest up and also so we don't have to hear from the pens.

Clock not starting tonight, 2 pucks on the ice in the Rags/Sens during Game 1, 45 goals in 4 games in our series, 7+ suspensions...

What a first round.

It's still going to be a battle for Pitt to close this out. The Flyers should be able to win one freaking game with what they have healthy. If Bryz can't play then Bob has to do it, Leighton isn't going to cut it.
