But doesn't Bryz need all the practice he can get. - sbrubakerjr
Sometimes rest is just as conducive to winning as practice. If he is hurt physically then yes, give him some rest and tweak a few things in practice. |

The trend isn't going to end with the team playing the way they are in front of him against that potent of an offense. It matters not who is in net. You play pond hockey in front of them they are going to give up goals. - JoeRussomanno

Your right, he'll show up and score 50 goals by himself in the next 3 games

I think they could survive without Grossmann (short term) if Bryz could find his game.
The absence of Grossmann with Bryz struggling makes me think they will struggle mightily from here on out. - Marc D
And apparently everybody saw the 2 high hits on Grossmann except, you know, f'n Shanahan and the on ice officials! |

Didn't briere get a suspension for something similar to what kennedy did last year? |

Of course not 50, but maybe 12 with no Grossmann and Bryz in goal.

So does no-one care that the Schenn-Briere-Simmonds line have been out for 7 of the 15 even strenght goals scored by the Penguins this series? I really see the need to break this line up. |

The refs were calling everything, on both teams, but managed to miss both shots on G-NN.
Oh well, stuff happens.
I still can't see the Pens winning 3 in a row, but it wouldn't surprise me either.
This has been a very wacky series. |

Whatever line Briere is on will struggle (defensively). Briere plays an important position in the defensive zone. We all know he's not the greatest defender. |

I brought something up to that effect last night and met with stiff resistance. I'll wait until it really starts hurting to elaborate further. |

Like I was told last night, it doesn't matter because he is the highest scoring playoff player since the lockout. That is the only stirring of this subject I will contribute for the remainder of the day. |

So what do you want them to do?
Everyone knows Briere is not the best two way center.
He is money offensively in the post season.
It's up to the coaches to minimize his worst match ups and maximize his offensive zone starts. |

The Philadelphia Flyers will be without Danny Briere after the NHL slapped the forward with a three-game suspension for cross-checking an opponent in the face during Saturday's game against the New York Islanders.
League officials handed Briere the ban after the player got his stick up in the face of Isles centre Frans Nielsen during a face-off with about a minute to go in the third period of the 6-1 Flyer win.
"I'm shocked," Briere said before Philadelphia hosted the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night. "Surprised is not strong enough. After all the suspensions that have been handed out the last couple of years and this year, I didn't think I was going to get a game. Then I thought, 'OK, yes, I am a repeat offender, they'll probably give me a game because of it.' I'm shocked that it was more than a game."

Similar to what Kennedy did. And Malkin's elbow is certainly worth a look by the league, especially since he likes to throw it around fairly regularly. |

Briere does average a point per game in the playoffs but that doesnt mean hes a good defensive player. So your point about Briere has some legs. You cant ignore the fact that he does provide offense. I dont have his career playoff numbers in front of me but it would be interesting to see his overall +/- if you buy into that stat. |

I just dont like the idea of keeping this line together. Pittsburgh exploits it. I think you put Voracek and either Read, Wellwood, or Hartnell with him to even out Briere's weakness. Schenn isn't good enough defensively yet, and neither is Simmonds. Wellwood or Read would be fast enough and defensively aware enough to comensate for Briere. |

I think you answered your question for me but to go a little further, if a mechanism to get out of that contract is available in this new CBA, then I want them to not hesitate for a second. |

No doubt, as long as he scores you accept his D liability. But it would be smart to put him on with stronger defenders...unless you screw up the chemistry, and that line (Simmonds, Schenn, Briere) seem to have some good chemistry.
Tough call. |

I'm not knocking the way Briere plays though, I'm just saying you need to put him on a line that will counter-balance his weakness. And with JVR coming back, now would be a good time to do just that. |
