I dont know if it was an elbow or shoulder tbh, but he definitely shifts his body and lunges for the hit.

The problem is, the rules should remove any bias from them. You cant judge on intent or result. You cant tell if a player wanted to hurt someone, and it shouldn't matter. You cant decide the severity of a penality based on if a player was hurt or not.

The rules should state, any hit which the principal point of contact is the head, will result in a X game auto-matic suspension.

The only thing that could change the number of games, is history of this play.

It's just like a high stick. Doesnt matter if it was intentional or not. If it hits the head, its a penality. You have to be responcible for your body, just as well as your stick.

- RooNosHockey

What about unintential contact? 2 guys run into each and one has his head down, 5 game suspension?

Carle screwed the pooch on that one pass in the 2nd just as the PP was about to end... He screwed the pooch royally.

That didn't happen Sir. Neither did the two imaginary penalties he took.

Yes.

Everybody here believes it was malicious because it was Malkin and the Penguins are head hunters.

I'm not saying I know if he intended to or not...and you can have an opinion either way...fine.

He was, however, making a play on the puck...which does make a difference in determining if there was intent or not...at least according to the NHL rules.

Look, I argued with Penguin fans about the Steckel hit on Crosby. Seemed like a bad accident to me. But a lot of people wanted to make Steckel out to be a goon.

The evidence simply suggested otherwise.

Maybe he could have voided Crosby, maybe not. There was no clear intent...so I chose to think he dd not intend on hitting Crosby in the head.

- icedog97

The thing that bothers me the most the is transferring of body weight to throw the check.. Thats all the evidence I need personally.

I'd say it's cautiously pessimistic in here today.

There is a distinct difference in what you are suggesting there, and what happened last night. Malkin went for the hit.. and intentionally or not made contact with the head of Grossmann.

He transfers the weight of his body and THROWS the hit.. It was a glancing blow to Grossmanns head... the worse kinda hit you can take when it comes to concussions.

Wheels came off in the 2nd. You can't beat a team that you give and/or is given back-to-back-to-back-to-back PowerPlays. The Pens got at least 4 in a row to start the 2nd period. That's absurd, especially given a few were so ticky-tacky as to be almost unnoticeable.

Did anybody see a replay of the Too Many Men penalty the Flyers got when they were about to get a PP?

And if Rinaldo is so bad and dangerous, what about Kennedy for his high hit on Grossmann?

- wolfhounds

the too many men was a mystery to me as well, looked like a pretty standard change going on but at that time it was the least of my problems

I didn't see the play, so I cant say if he meant to or not, but Malkin does have a history of throwing elbows. Someone want to post the "missed" attempt on Giroux head to remind him? So you can see why some ppl might think it was on purpose.

The entire team. they thought the pens would hand us the game -- they'll bounce back tomorrow night. Just worried about Grossmann.

Then my question to you is? If groomsman was crosby and rinaldo was malkin, rinaldo would have a minimum 10 games for it. It would be playing nationally on a loop for the next year or so. This is what disgusts me the duality and the simple fact of intent. If its malkin we hear 'Oh hes just trying to make a play for puck' if its rinaldo its 'Look at that cheapshot and those goon flyers'.

It's almost identical to the hit Shaw put on Smith. They both changed their body angle for no "hockey" reason other than to make contact high on the body.

Even if it wasnt an elbow.. he still picked the head. He could have collected the puck and skated right by Grossmann.. He didnt.

Anybody bring up that Bryz's foot could be bothering him? His lateral movement on two of the goals was absolutely horrible. He looked silly on the LeTang PP goal that ended up getting him pulled.
