that play happend so fast but i look at it as pretty much the same hit as neal on couturier. anyone who plays the game who has played it at any sort of competitive level knows the game is extremely fast. to call a guy making a hit .87 of a second after a puck was passed is unbelievable. idc who you are its literally impossible to get out of the way in less than a second. Torres was lined up for that hit when hossa still had the puck. and if your going forward in the hit your feet almost always leave the ground because of momentum running into an object. he doesnt even touch hossa's head on the play. i hope he doesnt get more than 1 game i didnt really see that bad of a play and the refs obviously didnt either. |

All around, the refs were horrible last night:
Torres hit on Hossa - no call
Torres slew foots Stalberg in the 2nd - no call
Kane blatantly trips forward at center ice - no call
Hjalmarsson highsticks resulting in blood - no call
But yet, Doan and Hjalmarsson casually flip the puck at one another - unsportsmanlike conduct
Way to take control of the game!! |

Torres is a scumbag and everyone knows it. Unfortunately that's a great trade for the yotes. The lack of respect among today's NHLers is staggering. Another issue is the officials are forcing the players to police themselves. That's where you get guys running each other after the lack of calls during "playoff hockey". 4th line guys aren't worried about being suspended especially if they can take out a high end player without a major. The suspension doesn't hurt the team as much as an in game penalty. It's a circus out there from the ice to the office. |

The refs didnt say they didnt see anything wrong with it...they said they didnt see it. That's what's concerning. a hit like that, when a ref is 10 feet away, where the puck just was .87 secs prior....and they say they disnt see the hit?! |

Almost exactly the same hit as Neal on Couturier...only the results differ. And if the NHL continues to base discipline upon injuries (or not), things are only going to get worse.
It's kinda like saying shooting at someone isn't a crime unless you actually wound them. |

as a ref myself i can tell you my head is always in motion. im constantly looking around at the whole play just incase something is going on away from the puck. a persons vision if in the right position can only see roughly one zone of ice. you can easily miss the hit. especially with line changes going on on both benches at the same time.
also i very rarely follow the actual puck. i try to just keep my eyes in the area of the play. if you are looking down following the puck you will almost certainly miss something going on during the play. |
