I think the Isles have very good prospects but will Snow handle them the right way and who coaches these prospects?
- ses111

Maybe, we will not know that until they actually play in the NHL. Edmontons top prospects are already playing and are playing at a high level. Compared to our guys we threw in the fire (Nino Bailey) they are light years ahead of them

but the answers wouldnt really mean all that much either....they are all prospects or JUST starting their NHL career.

not too many people who would vote have seen enough of any/all of those players to make a "fair" assessment to vote...having said that, my totally unscouted prospect vote would prob still go to the islanders...but again, take it for what its worth, which isnt all that much.

(i refuse to devalue nino even after his totally unproductive (points wise) year)

Absolutely agree on both points. At this time, who really knows which player we think will blossom will struggle to crack the lineup and which player we weren't thrilled about might ultimately become a second-line goal scorer.

I'd probably give a slight edge to the Isles for that very reason...I think they have more darts to throw as far as the number of prospects on a decent trajectory as of now, whereas, at least to my very limited knowledge, many of Edmonton's top young players are already on the NHL team.

I guess my point was it's not a laughable slam dunk in the Isles' favor, as Edmonton has some very high-end young forwards already making names for themselves in the NHL. Eberle in particular is insane. He's to the Oilers' wing what Tavares is to the Islanders' center position.

I was going based on this comment

You do realize that there were teams that finished worse then us & they didn't fire their coach right?

XxNYIxX

Which to me makes me think you do not want to see Cappy go

- kasperrko

I want him gone yesterday... but that doesn't mean he would have been fired by every team in the league as was stated.

Do you consider Tavares proven even though the Isles have been down and out his entire time here? I think he's shown to be a top rising young center in the league. Same for some of Edmonton's young forwards.

I don't think it's that outrageous of a statement to compare Edmonton and NYI. Eberle, RNH, Hall (all over 50 pts this year) and Yakupov (likely) looks like a darn good group of young forwards to build on, and the oldest of the four is only Bailey's age and already putting up 76 points.

I think the Isles do have more prospect depth throughout the system.

But top young drafted forward talent to build around...not sure if Tavares, Strome, Nino and ? (Okposo? Bailey? Nelson? this year's pick if we take a forward?) will match Edmonton's top four as a group in like three or so years. Possibly, but I think if you put it up for a general vote among NHL fans on which current team/prospect system they'd rather have going forward, the answers wouldn't necessarily be overwhelmingly Islanders.

I never said it was an outrageous comment to compare the 2 franchises. I said i thought he was wrong that the Oilers had more proven talent then us.

either a serious double standard or no idea of whats going on in the islanders prospect pool, either way this comment is way off
- LetsGoIsles

The oilers have been fortunate enough to get three first overall picks, one which was won in through the lottery, they have a competent coaching staff as well as GM IMO. I don't think we are brimming with talent as much as some of you think. They also will spend money, so no. I can't agree its a double standard

I think the Oiler team has more proven talents then ours. I cant say that our prospects are better then theres since we have yet to see them play in the NHL
- kasperrko

Agreed. Taveras, Hamonic, I love Martin for what he is but to compare what the Oilers have to what we have its a distinct difference in talent. Thats excluding the talent they have coming through their orginization.

Its hard to say, there is a chance? I would certainly not say its written in stone. The Oilers have more talent and a legitimet staff where as we don't. We do not have the prospects they have, we don't have the legit NHL talent they have. They also don't have Garth Snow and Charles Wang, thats the X factor

Hall, Eberle, RNH, Paajarvi, as compared to Taveras and Hamonic. Yes I would. I'm just going by recent picks.

Taveras... Assistant coach/player?
- Cptmjl

Screw it. Might as well make Tavares Reggie Dunlop 2.0: Head coach/player. It worked for the Charlestown Chiefs. They were the Federal League Champs!

Anything is possible but I have a hard time believing another team would have brought Cappy back.

No, but they have Steve Tambellini who has been GM for the past 5 years and has not made the playoffs in one of them. Awesome job there.

And no, that is not an endorsement of Snow or Wang and the job they have done (or haven't done).

And the next time you attack someone's intelligence, please learn how to spell common words. Thanks!

Another team wouldn't have hired Cappy in the first place. But unless the Isles are getting a legit veteran NHL coach with a proven track record of success working with young players, I'm not interested in firing Cappy just for the sake of doing so and bringing in a fourth coach in seven seasons.

Tambellini and Snow both afraid to make a trade and want to wait for the draft every year. Both should be gone.
