A sabres fan calling any other team a "ladies team". Boy is that ever the pot calling the kettle black. Well takes one to know one I guess.

Really? Besides our Coach and maybe Roy who else cries to the media like Crosby, Neal or the flower?

Read the entire rule...it makes no mention of gliding...which is skating...
- icedog97

I know the rule.. and I also know how to interpret the rule. What if a guy starts on his goal line take 4 strides and glides the entire length of the ice and checks another player... and the other player doesnt budge. Well.. he just traveled about the greatest distance possible and made contact... "It's a charge!"

Thats not how it works. Schenn threw a hard hit... but it was clean. He didnt launch himself up high on Martin (?) he didnt lead or follow through with an elbow. He didnt jump or take big strides prior to the hit. It was a clean hit.. ala Chris Neil on Boychuk

I'm not so upset with the ruling of 1 game. I am very upset over Shanny's breakdown. He gets one game for the hit on Giroux... but NOTHING for the hit on Courtier. In Shanny's words. "We are ok with Neil description that he left his feet to brace himself for the hit, after Courtier lost the puck."

1] Courtier was nowhere near the puck. He was in a vulnerable position away from the puck. If you don't have possession of the puck you are not expecting to be hit like that.

2] He was the aggressor trying to hit him. He left his skates. There is no clearer example of leaving your feet for the hit. The idea that he was only bracing himself for the hit is ridiculous.

3] Neil is a repeat offender. They ALWAYS make reference to this in these breakdowns but not this time.

Shanny has been inconsistent over all so far and if he doesn't give consistent punishments out for these violations he is asking for teams to take matters into their own hands. It's just a matter of time before someone does something stupid. When retaliations happen on the ice and not from the NHL, they have to potential to become another Bertuzzi/Moore situation.

He's become a laughing stock. He is starting to fit in nicely with the rest of NHL Exec's

He punched Schenn 1 time.

Watch the entire replay.

The original comment was that Asham punched Schenn in the back of the head 8x.

Everybody agrees it was worthy of penalty/suspension. But some people think it was worse than it actually was. Some people see the same thing differently. But if you watch the replay, it's tough to argue there was more than 1 punch to the back of the head.

For example...Peirre McGuire said Schenn's hit was completely legal...yet the ref gave him a charging penalty. Watching the replay, it seems that Schenn did travel a pretty good distance to hit Martin, who, at the time of the hit, was already engaged with another Flyer.

Charging rules...the part relevant to the call on the ice...

42.1 Charging - A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player who skates or jumps into, or charges an opponent in any manner.

Charging shall mean the actions of a player who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A “charge” may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice.

- icedog97

I borderline hate the Pens but I don't think Asham shoould get suspended at all. Maybe one game. Crosscheck to the chest, never touches or targets head or throat. One harmless rabbit punch, jesus christ that's gonna kill him. Give him a major and a match and that's it. Throw the book at the (frank)in headhunters. Asham's always been all right in my books, solid player, wish he was a Bruin.

Miller for one. And my point was more the fact they play like ladies. Not that they necessarily whine. But they are a group of soft primadonnas who are unwilling to engage in anything physical and stand by as their goalie gets plowed. I think we all know if that were flower or any other goalie it would have been handled differently.

Can't say I've seen any Sabres players act childish enough to knock away another players glove on the ice and then expect a teammate to fight for him when he's called out on it.

Curious, I suppose if Hartnell had done the same thing as Neil- take a run at a rookie that was shutting down a Flyer's best player, would you be ok with one game? Based on all your blogs I'm thinking no.

Said I thought they were 'fair'...given the current climate - stars vs grunts rulings.

What do u mean expect someone else to fight for him? He did fight. Which is more than can be said for Roy, vanek, pominville, boyes, and on down the line. Sure hitting the glove was childish. So is every face wash after a whistle, chirping at a guy who is doing a tv interview, stealing the puck after losing a game, and any other number of stupid behaviors that get played off as gamesmanship.

Based on my blogs...please elaborate...

Shanny would have a really tough time with this one, wouldn't he?

Hartnell is a 'star' and a 'grunt'...and he has a history.

I think Hartnell is very good at what he does...have said it in my blogs.

I think he does whatever he can (when necessary)...sometimes after the whistle...like Holmstrom...to get other guys off their game.

He's good at it and he has skill.

If he went after Crosby like Neal when after Coots, sure I'd be upset.

But understanding all that goes into these things is how you learn to accept them better.

If he got 1 game...then he got 1 game.

If my team was up 3-0...and he got a game...that would be good, right?

Please he went after a guy who was 30lbs lighter than him. Then he waited to Adams to jump in on Hartnell.

I am so tired of Pens fans saying that the Flyers have always been goons and have made their living off of it and that now Flyers fan are hypocrites for complaining about the Pens goonism. Here's the news Pens fans:

1. That was the 70s. Here in the present where we live, this Flyers team is winning this series because they are playing disciplined hockey and showing restraint when confronted with goonish behaviors. In this present series, the only cheap shots and dirty play have been given by a few frustrated, petulant, entitled guys in black and gold.

2. Have you ever heard the saying "2 wrongs don't make a right"? Well that is especially true if your owner sanctimoniously puts himself out there as the poster boy for ending head shots and dirty play just last year, and then your team resorts to them in a nationally televised playoff game. Does the word hypocritical mean anything to you?

The problem is, and I admit this is purely hypothetical, that Hartnell probably would have gotten more than just a game is he blew up Neal and then went after Crosby's head in the same shift. Would you agree?

Maybe you can get video of all the games and go back and count them all..I'm betting there is at least ONE from a Flyer player.

Mario has not commented publicly..what has been reported is that he was very upset by what he saw Sunday.

It's also been reported that the NHL kind of put the clamp on the Pens and Flyers brass when it comes to commenting on the games...

1] I'm taking a dig at you ;-) ... but I mean my point.

2] Your blogs are very much through "Pitt" colored glasses.

3] Neil has a history too. Fines and suspensions. No mention from Shanny.

4] Both Neil and Hartnell are about the same in intensity and output for the season. I thought it was a good comparison about seeing things from another point of view.

5] Look at Hendrix's youtube posts. Part of the reason I think Shanny needs to be more consistent. I stated that before.

6] It's a game. I want both teams to have a hard game tonight. I don't want anyone leaving on a stretcher. I feel getting the punishments correct and consistent will help with that.
