What an embarassment this has become... I would've been angry with one but this is just speechless...
I guess he should've turned around and slammed smiths head into the glass instead if he wanted to avoid suspension.

Just so I get this Straight.
NHL owns Phoenix
If Phoenix goes deep in playoffs NHL makes more money
Chicago player accidentally hits Phoenix player.
So NHL decides to suspend that player for harming someone on their own team.
Does anyone know the definition of conflict of interest? - willey101
... and that is only the tip of it. In 2 games that were decided in OT, each had at least one obvious blown call that resulted in a Phoenix goal... too many man from game 1, Toews interference from game 2 where Smith initiated contact. WHAT... A ... JOKE |

So the solution is to get someone from the KHL to make the call? - Lahey
I think the solution is to move/sell Phoenix but thats an entirely different discussion. I think this entire office is a joke. Campbell was joke, Shanahan is a joke.
You need to get people in place whether it be a 3rd party impartial to the NHL or an independent moderator or something.
Weber gets nothing, Giroux gets nothing for his kick, yet they throw the book at pluggers.
It's a shame that the NHL does this. |

In some fairness, the rule is very clear on contact to the head, which there was. The crime however in this case does not fit the punishment and if the refs had of called a dive or unsportsman on Smith would we be looking at a suspension? I'd like to know how much "external influence" is on Shanahan when these decisions are made? |

Weber has scored a goal in each game after that too hasnt he? What am impact his suspension would have had....and its his own red wings hes hurting. i dont get it. - chitownhockey

Don't even start on the reffing. Yet somehow these playoffs are the most watched getting the best ratings. |

If I am in Hawks management I am speaking about this with the media regardless of fines. They might as well have left Cambell in there. I see no difference in the wheel of punishment from years past, other than we see they don't like the Hawks this year. Big tough guys, they can throw around big suspensions for rookies but don't have the sack to suspend a Weber? What a joke |

what a goddamn Joke , If Smith plays tonight I want them to run his ass over for real. What a joke. - mrpaulish
Yep, I hope he does play and gets run over bigtime for his lame-ass acting job!!! Game time decision, GIVE ME A BREAK. He's fine. This will 110% piss off the Hawks and light a huge fire under their collective arses. Look for several fights in the game tonight. |

This is a freakin joke! The league is rapidly losing its credibility on meting out justice. They can't get the call correct on the ice - the hit was not charging. Blown offsides, blown too many men. THIS IS THE GREATEST SPORT IN THE WORLD AND THE LEAGUE IS DOING EVERYTHING IN ITS POWER TO SCREW IT UP.. GROW UP NHL. |

That should be the most interesting part of the game. Wish we were privy to the national feed to see how they describe the event. |

National feed has been airing Comcast's feed so there is no difference but I am sure there will be plenty of discussion on the Networks over it. Eddie O was on the Score over the noon hour and stated that he did not think Shaw deserved to get a one game suspension... Surprise! Wheel came up Coyotes. |

Something tells me that these guys are just the puppets. Shanahan started the pre-season and season out by cracking down hard on the players but then all of a sudden he lost his ways. |

By this logic Neal should get at least 3 for two cheap shots, 1 towards the head. I thought that news was supposed to be released today? Could be wrong |

Wow. That definitely didn't warrant a suspension. Mike Smith was SO hurt that he stayed in the game. Acting job. I seriously hope Shanahan doesn't have that position for long. What a joke. If Neal doesn't get suspended, I'm going to be pissed |
