I don't recall anyone who is older than 12 saying he was the next Lidstrom, but he is just putting in the work in the AHL this year to ready himself for the NHL next year. He'll be a player, i'm not concerned. Too much there to not be a good D.

Nor should you be concerned... he's phoenix property now.

Jonas Gustavsson was said by scouts to have dominated the Elitserien in a way not seen since a young Henrik Lundquist....or Tommy Soderstrom.

Doesn't mean I can't still like him as a player.

1) He's 21, not really rushing him, Murray wanted him here this year
2) He has far more scoring potential than Condra, Winchester, Daugavins, Konopka
3) He will be a relative unknown to the competition
4) We need goals
5) Even if he doesn't produce the experience of playing in the NHL playoffs is invaluable.

Just my 2 cents, I certainly won't be upset if he doesn't get called up.

- MrFurly

I agree 100%. This is my thinking with Kreider. If he is ready, give him a shot. Give him the experience. Just don't over play him. Just like Torts switched him and Stepan late in the game

id keep winchester in and sit condra to be honest....if silvferberg is ready to come over after today then do it...why not..
- TheMike12

In all likelihood, your team probably won't make a championship run this year, so why burn a year of his ELC? If he's as good as this blog makes him out to be, I feel like you want to get as many years out of him as possible at his current cap hit.

I thought Winchester was one of our better forwards last night. Lately, Condra is bugging me a bit, I won't lie, but I'm not sure switching him for anyone really helps us. I just wishhe wasn't so snake bitten around the goal.

I heard someone saying they were impressed with Butler last night as well and I thought really? His shot looked weak, he wasn't really doing the things I wanted to see out of him either. Whatever. If Alfie is back in the lineup tomorrow, Butler is out and I assume Gilroy comes out for Carkner as well.

You dont throw a 21 year old from Europe, who has never playing in the NHL, into the NHL Playoffs. He'll be overwhelmed.

Yeah I'm not sure exactly why.. I think it had something to do with age...

Ottawa is in the first year of a three year rebuild. Hold Silfverburg back until next season. Ottawa is not going to win the cup this year. But they are building an elite team for the future. Next year they will probably add at least four more high end rookies to their roster. I say stay with the plan and get ready for an even better run next year.

Ottawa has every opportunity to come back in this series. But any extra options on offence wouldn't go astray. I'm very disappointed in Spezza and Michalek so far. I know Spezza played decent last night, but you know your in trouble when him and Michalek are being outplayed by Foligno and even Butler, who came in last night and showed more effort than both of them combined.

I agree with that except that I can't see where it can hurt to give him some exposure to playoff hockey. I'm saying this but I haven't seen him play so depends what he looks like in practice. If he doesn't look fast enough, the point is moot but if he looks alright, I can't see what harm can be done by playing him ... as you said, it's not like he's likely to jeopardize our cup hopes ...

ya its cuz of his age...i don't know the exact rules, but they were saying on the radio that whether he plays of not it doesn't matter as his year is burned...so why the hell not..he would be coming here full of confidence..cant hurt really

Keep in mind that Spezza and Michalek are playing against the Rags top defensive pairing and checking unit, I would hope that the 2nd line would elevate their play to pick up the slack.

Spezza needs to stop trying to do everything himself, he needs to start making the simple plays rather then turning the puck over so much...

Because of Silvferberg's age and contract, he was loaned to his SEL team and thus burned a year on his contract. It is different than Zibanejad, who still hasn't started on his deal. So if he comes over to Ottawa or not, he is still using up the first year of his ELC.

Also, Assistant GM Tim Murray was on the radio and said they plan on bringing him over as soon as their SEL playoffs wrap up and that if there is an opportunity, they will put him into games. So it isn't really much of a mystery about what he'll do, it is about how soon he can come over and who comes out of the lineup.

After a shutout last night, they have to try and put in a scorer to shake things up, right?

As mentioned, due to his age the year is already burned whether he plays or not.

Now, whether he'd even be able to have a meaningful impact is another matter. Beyond the fact that it'd be his first NHL game in a new system, I personally have difficultly imagining he'd be in the right headspace for it. Asking him to jump into the middle of an intense series 1 or 2 days after pushing his team to a SEL title, I feel like the kid will need a break.

That said, crazier things have happened, I guess. Sens might be desperate by then.
