Because the refs did such a stellar job of controlling things in game 3?

Nice

Also, I made that Grossmann avatar and didn't upload it to my cloud drive thing. It's ready to be activated for the second round, though.

The Flyers are the ones up 3-0. I don't see the need to change the lineup even for 1 player. I wouldn't make changes, business as usual. Having Shelley replace Zac doesn't make sense to me.

Pitt will be physical but nothing like on Sunday. They need to focus on the game and win or the season is over for them. Wednesday's game will be the toughest one yet. I predict a much lower scoring game too.

Bryz needs to be better than he was in Game 3.

I'm concerned about mid-playoff avatar changes from a mojo perspective.

I have that concern as well. Hard to change an avatar when were winning. I never had an avatar until the playoffs started. That was a risk in itself.

I probably wouldn't change the line-up either. But Rinaldo is a powder keg and has a much greater chance (than Shelley or anyone else) of doing something stupid that could swing this series the other way. He'd be on a very short leash.

Maybe keep it on hand in case of a bad series, use it as a luck changer. I agree with you, it's why I've still got this half assed doop avatar

I think my avatar becomes pointless after this series... so I almost have to change mine... But I think it brought all the good mojo, cause this is exactly whats happenin.

You can find the next villain once we advance and find out the next opponent. Until then we have to finish off the Pens.

I had a good playoffs Spock ready for months, too. Logic suggests it should remain ready, considering our luck. That is, if luck is at all logical.

Shelley isn't prone to doing stupid stuff. And Shelley also would have the same target on his back by the refs. And making that change wouldn't change the game plan of how the Flyers want to play. Your not putting Shelley in there for exact revenge on anyone. Nor to send any messages. The only message the Flyers need to send to the Pens is the one being given to them when they're in line to shake hands with the Pens, and they're eliminated. You've misunderstood the reasoning for putting Shelley in the lineup.
- MJL

My point was that Shelley and Rinaldo is a wash in regards to penalties. (Shelley is just as prone as Rinaldo - who in my opinion has been pretty smart). The refs will be watching either of those guys for the slightest infraction.

Shelley is bigger and fights better. And, fighting does not matter. Most are going to walk away from Shelley. If he does get into a fight, he is going to get tossed... And, it really doesn't matter to win or loss a fight - case in point - Carcillo/Talbot fight. Talbot got his clock cleaned which was pretty much the turning point and the pens moved on to win the series. I'd rather Simmonds or Hartnell fight (if necessary) then putting Shelley in. If Shelley wants to fight... Let him pick a fight after the game, in the parking lot as the pens head to the bus....

Rinaldo is faster (quicker on the fore-check, quicker to get back on defense), hits more often (because he is quicker, won't get a late hit call that Shelley is more apt to take). Rinaldo has more offensive upside with 2g/7asst (versus Shelley's 1asst - granted half the games). More importantly, Rinaldo is a -1, versus Shelley's -6.

If your goal is to shake-hands Wednesday night... There is no reason to put Shelley in.

Jeff Carter to the Columbus Blue Jackets for winger Jake Voracek and a 1st round pick(Sean Couturier) and 3rd round pick(Nick Cousins) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Other deal?

Mike Richards and Rob Bordson to the Los Angeles Kings for winger Wayne Simmonds, center Brayden Schenn and a second round draft choice in the 2012 NHL Enrty draft(later traded to Tampa Bay)

If people are worried about an extra day between games, what happens if the Flyers beat the Pens tomorrow night and have to wait several extra days for the next series to begin?

And let's not act as if the Flyers have started every game with vim, vigor and precision performance.

If something like an extra day throws them off - which I don't believe it will - that's a crack that needs mending.

If the coaching staff was concerned with Rinaldo's lack of discipline and propensity to take penalties, they would likely dress Harry Z. All of a sudden Shelley is a Lady Byng candidate as far as playing disciplined hockey? Nonsensical gobbly gook.

Good points. But Shelley played well the last couple games of the season, and the fight with Rupp was inspiring, and he had some big hits.

At this point in time, I believe Shelley has more of a leash to play with from the officials than Rinaldo does and that alone could make him a more effective player. I mean, Rinaldo essentially got kicked out of the game for a weak x-check where Kennedy didn't even get knocked down...in other words, as soon as he steps on the ice the arm is halfway up.

How good of a job did Homer do this year? I remember when most of the posters on here didn't think this team was good enough to make a deep run. Now look. We have what 8 goals from rookies in 3 games? Jagr and Talbot have been Huge too. This is just crazy when you think that last year Richards, Carter, Leino, and Versteeg were on this team and our goaltenders were Boucher and Bobrovsky.... and we had Zero youth outside Giroux and JVR on the horizion. Now look. Schenn, Couturier, Read, Rinaldo, Wellwood, Bourdon, Simmonds, Giroux, Voracek, Gustefson, Bobrovsky, and thats not to mention Sestito, Zulnerczyk, Cousins, Manning, and Brown all potential future players... Just wow...
