Sure there was a 'reason'. The linesman determined that Dupuis couldn't play the puck because Grossmann rubbed him out. It happens all the time.

The reasoning was sound, hence why it wasn't a blown icing.

The timing could've been a bit quicker though, but usually the goalie let's the d-man know that there won't be icing if it's waved off.

Why not? If Briere is correctly called offsides there that could change the entire complexion of the game / series
- nhindian

And if the icing wasn't inexplicably waved off, then the offsides-goal doesn't hold such a large role in the game...

That's pretty sad. If you think one goal in game 1 of 7 affects the whole series, then your team has bigger problems. The Flyers have shown resiliency in every game against the Pens this year, playoff and regular season. You're reaching at straws if you think this would be a closer series over one goal in the first period of game 1...
- steelydan

I said could, not would.

The Flyers had absolutely nothing going for them until Briere's goal. Take away the goal, and do they still win the game? Possibly. But that goal was pretty obviously the catalyst for the comeback.

You guys had 8 shots on goal before Briere scored that goal. Are you ever gonna answer me with facts about how it was a horsepoop call or are you gonna keep calling me a homer when I have pretty clearly shown I'm not over the past week

So Grossmann taking Dupuis out of position to play the puck is 'nothing'.

Okay, so now that you proved you are a homer with an insane conspiracy theory and never played hockey in your life, have a good night!

you're acting like one. that icing should have been called. everyone knows it. i can't prove a negtive. the pens iced the puck and the flyers touched it first. what more do you want? dupuis was not close enough to even play the puck. when you try this bullcrap it makes you a homer. the pens iced the puck with none of their players near the path, yet since they waived the icing off you assume it's for good reason. it wasn't. fact. watch the play again if you disagree. you are wrong. it WAS icing. get over it. your team is down 3-0. facts

stop being a baby. your team is down 3-0 cuz they aren't as good as the flyers not because of a blown offsides call. deal with it!!!!

Jesus, shut it already both of ya. Put Danny's foot back on the line and there's a 99% chance that puck still ends up in the net anyway.

considering that they've climbed out of every hole the pens have put them in so far this series, i'd say it's reasonable to think that they may have gotten the equalizer anyway

No idea if it's been discussed yet or not.

Torres hit on Hossa.

Yet another pointless hit. Basically the same as Neal on Couturier.

1) Puck was 5 light years gone from Hossa's stick.

2) Hossa was not Torres' check, so he was not finishing his check.

3) Torres saw an opportunity to lay a lick on an unsuspecting player (Hossa no longer had control of the puck, never ever really had it to start with) and took it.

4) Left his feet to deliver the hit.

Shoulda been a 5 min. major and a game misconduct for interference, with a 1 game suspension.

I doubt he'll get anything.

These types of hits have really started creeping into the game the past couple of seasons and they are disgusting imo.

I backread 1.5 pages. I couldn't be bothered to read the whole thead.

Calls go both ways. Briere's non-call was brutal. But whatchya gonna do about it now? It only made the game 3-1. Not like it was an OT winner.

except the icing wasn't 'blown', it was just waved off late and they couldn't hear because of the crowd.

Offsides is not a judgment call ruling, it's black and white, and it was blown.

- nhindian

On the other hand, the referees put both teams in a position where they could not defend a goal against in that game. There's truth in your suggesting offsides is more 'black-and-white', but I can't agree the offsides is the most blown call. Not with the typical 'no teeth' response by the NHL to headhunting on the board, anyway.
