All I'm saying is he's losing cred with each explanation. The fact that the name on your back gives you less games is a joke. The rules are laid out and its basic if you break them you pay the price. Obviously repeated offenders should be hit with a bigger suspension.
- stveshdy

Do you think Shanahan is much more than a puppet? He works for the owners and the NHL Board of Governors. The BOG is made up of some of the most short sighted billionaires in the world.

You know why there's a NHL team in Tampa Bay? Because Phil Esposito told the investors to bring a cashier's check for the entire expansion fee to their pitch meeting.

They shut down their league for a season to get a cap system that doesn't work.

You think the players in the league dont care? Cause I happen to think they do. Theres different standards all over. Theres no consistency.
- stveshdy

There is no consistency. Again, Shanahan doesn't answer to the Players. If the players have a problem then they should get the Players Association involved. So in the case of one player injuring another, who is the PA going to support. The victim or the perp?

If Torres is suspended more than one game, I'm gonna go apepoop, the only thing he did differently than Neal, is throw one head shot during his shift, and not two.

I don't give a rat (frank) that Hossa was injured, shouldn't factor into the decision making. Start suspending guys 5+ games when there are no injuries as a result of head shots, and it will start to deter guys from doing it.

- PLindbergh31

the hit, and the circumstances under which the hit occurred are virutally identical. hossa left on a stretcher, cooter didn't. hossa also smacked the back of his head on the ice when he fell, and cooter didn't. you make a valid point, as neal made 2 cheap hits, and torres just one. the fact that neal is a repeat offender and only got 2 games is another aspect of the shanny's incompetence.

OT here in Chicago....

I just want to say that is there anything more fantastic than THIRD PARTY playoff overtime hockey?

You just sit here and appreciate the game as a hockey fan....no aneurysms, stomach ulcers, shredding of the vocal chords.

Not sure if this is a typo, but Neal got one game. And the reasoning behind it is "no apparent injury" How many times did we see guys develop concussion symptoms days later after a hit. JVR, Read, Schenn, and Pronger come to mind right away.

You have to protect the players. Tell me how Backstrom gets less games for doing the same exact thing as Asham? Dont even answer bc we know why.

Shanny had the opportunity to take control when the Weber situation broke out. He didnt have the stones to set the tone and now he looks like a fool when handing out these other rulings.

it's too bad sestito isn't available.

i've really been rooting for the yotes, but as of now, i'm having a hard time doing that. might have to pick the hawks. i (frank)ing hate torres. have for a long time. it's preposterous that he wasn't even penalized. how does this continue to happen, where guys are getting hammered, clearly in illegal fashion, yet neither of the striped clowns has the ability to see it?

- hammarby31

I think the league needs to start laying the hammer down hard on this leaving the feet type hits. That hit on Hossa might have ended his career. Anymore force and it could have been a trip to the morgue. Bottom line players have to be competitive but they need to have respect. Their opponents are people that like themselves are trying to win a hockey game. They have families and people that care for them, they are real people. Yes hockey and other sports are violent and dangerous but what torres did borders on criminal imo. I couldn't imagine having to sit there and watch one of my relatives or friends being laid out on a stretcher like that for a senseless play.

I'm all for hard hitting, bare knuckle fighting etc. But hitting an unsuspecting player, who doesn't have the puck and targeting his head is just mother effing ridiculous.

What I would like for the league to do, is in that type of incident which has happened twice in three days in two different games between four different teams, is for the player to be automatically ejected from the game and minimum of five games for the first offense. The only way you get through to these guys is to lay the hammer down hard. One game suspension to Neal is a disgrace. He had one purpose on that shift and that was to injure, not play hockey, not score goals, not even jumpstart his team. He wanted to end two other players's seasons PERIOD. For that he should have gotten a lot worse, especially being a repeat offender.

I haven't seen the Backstrom hit, so I can't comment on it. No one is arguing the inconsistency, and the clear leniency for star players.

I'd have to take another look at the Seabrook hit again but I think I was OK with it not being a suspension last year. This hit on Hossa is a deadly hit that I think he should be suspended for. He doesn't need to make the hit, it's late and he launches into Marian at full speed. Just so reckless and lethal. Hossa is a big big man too. Ugh my stomach turned watching that.
- Pixote Andolini

No way.

He has to get at least 10, good news is Hossa was released from hospital.

Cooke got suspended for 10 games + the first round last year.

Just admit that you think the league is conspiring against the Flyers somehow.

So now were going to have players fake injury or not talk to the media until fines and suspensions are given out. If we list guys as day-to-day or out indefinately I guess you will get more than one game. Who cares if the guy left his feet or went head hunting as long as the player got up.

Unless Shanny goes back and adds games for Neal the League is going to have major egg on its face tomorrow morning.

Thats my only problem with the entire system. If two players who have no prior history do the same exact thing the player with the brand name gets less games it makes no sense if the intent is exactly the same.

Exactly. If the Flyers announced after the game both players were out indefinitely would the result of the suspension be different?

It's all a joke. Hard to take the League seriously when there is zero consistency and different rules depending on the importance of a player.
