There is no rhyme or reason to any of these suspensions. Basically Shanahan is using injury as a way to measure the severity of the suspension.

Weber rammed Zetterberg's head into the glass and gets fined $2500, what happens if another player does the same thing and paralyzes a player from the neck down? What does Shanahan do? A $2500 fine is supposed to deter a player from doing what Weber did? Give me a break. That's cab fare for these guys.

It's all a joke, and the NHL is a farce when it comes to discipline.

I agree. If I launch myself at a guy's head, and miss, is that better than the guy who makes contact?

That's why Malkin should have gotten a game or 2 for throwing that elbow at Giroux. What, it's only bad to throw an elbow at another player's head if you connect? How much f'n sense does that f'n make?

what gets me is that the reason he got nothing for the couts hit is because he said he jumped to brace himself for an incoming hit! LMAO

Makes the league look mickey mouse to me.

The NHL should be paying attention to what is going in in the NFL. Former players are looking to sue the NFL for not protecting the players. How long until NHL players start looking to do the same thing?

You would think the owners would get together with Shanahan, and other in the position of power, and make it clear that the players health is priority #1. You would think the owners would be screaming for more severe penalties, on hits to the head, to protect themselves, finacially, if nothing else.

Thats an absolute joke. He got 1 game for hitting Giroux and nothing for Couturier yet he left his feet on both hits.

Expecting more than a game or two for Neal was expecting too much. The fact that his hearing was by phone and Asham's was in person meant that Asham was going to be gone longer.

I expected 1-2 games for Neal & 4-5 for Asham.

i'm at a loss for words, its so pathetic its laughable. i'm not just mad because it was the flyers on the end of the hit either. i love the physical side of hockey, love fights, etc, but the crap thats been allover these playoffs from neil to weber is embarrassing and disrespectful. the fact the NHL bases suspensions on injuries is mind boggling. this tactic will not curve behaviour. if you wait for people to get injured its too late. discpline the action not the result. if i attempt to rob a bank but no one gets shot or i get no money then i should be home free right? the fact the NHL buys a players explanation that the collision was accidental even though he hunted him down, lept into him and did the exact ame thing 30 secs later is bewildering and downright embarassing. *Puke*

By playing with the injuries he has this season, he's already surpassed my expectations as far as playing hurt and playing tough. We've seen players such as Simon Gagne, Jeff Carter and Chris Pronger return and play with foot injuries. I believe Jeff Carter was out along period of time before returning with a foot injury.
- roenick97

Returned yes. Playing at 100%, no. JVR will return to play if the Flyers go far enough. What I said in my post is not to expect JVR to return and play at the level he played in last year's playoffs.

Backstrom suspended one game. Did he deliver two head shots on one shift? That is what the going rate is for one game suspensions right?

IMO if Shanny for whatever reason just didn't think that Couturier hit deserved any games.... whatever, fine. The fact that he believed it was an accident is just comical

Hey, if it were up to me, Malkin would have four or five suspensions in his career.

I get the anger, but I can't get mad at it, because I expected them to do something like this all along. Neither act was worth 15 or 20 games, and there was no likely way that either was getting suspended for more than a few games.

I just shake my head, say that it's wrong, and continue to hope that the NHL fixes it before too long. I wish raging about it made me feel better, but it doesn't. Seeing a handshake line tomorrow night in South Philly is what will make me feel happy.

Should have gotten 4 games like Asham. Roenick pointed out that Asham isn't a repeat offender, like Backstrom. lol

They said he did the same thing as Asham difference is hes not a role player so his suspension is less games.

Definitely better for your blood pressure, and ultimately there is little point getting angry...I appreciate that and give you credit.

No doubt, Neal is gone for game 4 along with Adams and Asham...bury the f'n Gwens!

Seems like it should be the other way around ... 1 game for the blindside hit on Cooter, and nothing for G.

The explanation is the part thats ridiculous. You think Neal is going to say he ran Couturier? Any person in their right mind will say I tried to avoid contact so I left my feet to take on the hit. You have to be a (frank)ing idiot to believe that after watching the video, Shanny.
