So the importance of the player determines into the suspension?
NHL = WWE - PLindbergh31
You better believe it. The name on the back of the jersey also determines how long your suspended. |

The explanation is the part thats ridiculous. You think Neal is going to say he ran Couturier? Any person in their right mind will say I tried to avoid contact so I left my feet to take on the hit. You have to be a (frank)ing idiot to believe that after watching the video, Shanny. - stveshdy

I'm pretty sure Shaw said he tried to avoid Smith behind the net...he just failed horribly. |

In lieu of the Hawks/Yotes game....does anyone think Toews is overrated??
*AUTHOR'S NOTOE: Being overrated doesn't mean he's not a good hockey player....focusing more on how he's just crowned by the NHL as such a great leader AND player, etc

not that it is enforced this way, but the NHL regards plyoff suspension lengths to try and be commensurate with ones during the reg season. supposedly, the fact that a one game suspension during a seven game series is roughly equal to an 11 gm suspension goes into their calculation.
either way we can't compare missing a gm during the playoffs to other junctures during the season, but of course this is all bullsh1t because the weber scenario was a complete joke. that said, there is nothing surprising here. |

No, he is not overrated. He may be the best all around player in the NHL.

Ahhhh good point...I forgot about that.
Still a hell of a player- just not sure if he's really as good skill and intangible wise as everyone rants and raves he is, ya know? |

Not really. I'm pretty sure that Neal was going for Couturier's head. Couts being hurt or not should have zero impact on punishment doled out to Neal. - Jsaquella
I expected 2 for Neal, one for each hit taking into account the time lapse between both and the fact that he was a prior three time offender.
I expected 5 for Asham for a match - more specifically a cross check to Schenn's the facial area, and a punch to the back of his head while he was down and unprotected.
I was hoping for more, but I have to be a realist taking into account the inconsistencies of the punishment currently being doled out across the league, the "apparent" lack of injuries (although how Shanahan can foresee no future ramifications from these blows to the head is beyond me, and more importantly, why it would even factor into his equation), and yea, the offending team involved.
Shame. |

He's pretty good. He does everything. I actually believe he is under-rated. |

As much as I hate seeing Hossa get hit its perfect timing. Ethier don't suspended Torres or go back and add an extra games for Neal. I'm not one of the conspiracy theorists but the preferential Pens treatment will end up being a pretty valid argument after this. |

A nice way to watch Shanny's own video is to hit play-pause in rapid succession, allows film to advance a couple of frames at a time. I got about 5-6 freeze views a sec. A little after 5.27 to go, the puck is on Kunitz's stick, he clearly has control, Couts is looking back at puck. And Neal is not looking at puck, he is looking straight at Couts. In the next few frames, Kunitz pretends to move up with puck, then decides to swivel around and backhand dump it in. Couts is still looking behind him at puck . Neal reaches near Couts well after 5.26 and jumps. In other words, for a full sec and more (about 1.5 secs is my guess), there is no danger whatsoever of Couts being able to make a hockey play, and puck is about 10 feet away, and Neal has the same period of time to let up and avoid, uhh, collision. A second is an eternity to avoid a largely stationary object. My grandma on skates can avoid a collision with a second of time.

Interesting...I don't see him play much, honestly, so I'm actually asking everyone here. Not really trying to "start anything"
Speaking of Toews- we got a hell of a game out here in Chitown.... |

The explanation doesn't even matter to me. All I need to know is he's suspended for 1 game. He can explain it however he wants.
All I know is, if you have to justify a decision with that much bending over and reaching, it's not a good one.

No, the NHL has an easy out to give Torres more games...the fact that Hossa left on a stretcher.
NHL = Not Hampered by Logic.

To me it just isn't worth getting all riled up about. The explanation on the Couturier hit is laughable. End of story. Time to move on and worry about game 4.

I'm more than willing to sacrifice Rinaldo for the remainder of the playoffs with JVR due back soon.
Crazy game in Chicago. It sets up beautifully for Torres to score the game winner. Come on Raffi do it, embarrass the Three Stooges, Buttmann, Shanasham, and Campost. |

I still can't believe the Panthers came back from 3 goals down...impressive.
And Brodeur is officially not Brodeur any longer. He's done. |
