I've waited and waited and I think I have had my fill of Legwand. For someone who is one of the senior players on this team and the highest paid, and who really contributes little; and seems to get caught out of position so often; and hustles like an old lady, time for the pine bench. Put Wilson in there and I think there will be some life . Rads and AK46 are busting it and he is figure skating all over the ice. I have had enough.
- Predrod

Actually Marty Party (or lack there) is the highest paid forward on the roster this year at $6 million. Nonetheless, I agree. I swear he is clueless on the ice and that doesn't surprise me. Now mind you if you ain't cheatin' you ain't trying. Still think it was a stupid thing to do but what can we do? As many stupid plays Leggy does he does do some pretty good ones. Just happened this series has not been so kinda in his favor.

hate to change the subject and i guess show my ignorance, but whats the story of the rats being thrown in florida?
- predswilrule

Happened the season Florida made it to the Finals. A rat was killed in the locker room and then scored 2 goals. Goalie joked in interview he got a "rat trick" and it went from there. Because of the rats, the NHL literally made a rule that accounts for fans disrupting the game and a penalty can be assessed when warned first. It does allow "ceremonial" disruptions like we see with the hat trick.

If I'm bending over to pick up my hockey glove and some douche bag swats the glove away from my hand. Shouldn't that douche bag get the ever living poop beat out of him regardless who it is? I know everybody is calling Weber dirty but man Crosby is a punk!
- slash&smash

Crosby was an assclown that WHOLE game. Starting crap and letting his buddies finish for him. Lost ALL respect for him...#1 Douche in my book now! A shame so much talent is wrapped up in a pu**y!!

This is where I disagree with both you and Paul. To say that you've played crappy in all three games discounts anything that the Wings are doing to allow you to "play stellar." Wings are doing a good job of getting sticks in the lane, clogging the neutral zone and swarming to the puck handler. Preds are doing the same to the Wings. I think the way we are BOTH playing the other is what's keeping this series from being the "defense-is-just-a-theory" series that apparently the Pens and Flyers' is. I think both teams are playing as hard as they can, but the team on the other end of the rink seems to have an answer. That's why each game has been so close.
- drice97

You have a point but those of us who have seen every game the PREDS have played this year know they are not playing as well as they can. That said, both teams are defense crazy!

We win game 4, then we have a chance to eliminate the wings on home ice. That would be the best thing to ever happen to this franchise.
- TheOne

You'd be beating probably the weakest team we've had since about 2006...I mean the Wings aren't a Cup Contender this year by any means with the number of holes and inconsistencies they have. I guess I just don't get the whole argument of "if we beat the wings it means we've finally made it"...the Preds would be simply beating a team in name only no? But I know them and their fans will gladly take it regardless, and rightfully so. I just wonder why sometimes they hold us in such high regards/standards when we aren't really different then any team in the league.

I did pick the Preds in 6 though, so it would ruin my prediction sadly, lol

Yeah, and we'd be beating them with the youngest team in the league. Young teams are supposed to be in the draft lottery, not shooting for the Stanley Cup.

Oh really? So you don't see the significance of a young team beating a team that's been the gold standard for a decade and a half simply because they aren't as overpowering as they've been in past seasons? Sorry, but you don't get to give the Wings a built in excuse like that. They set the NHL record for consecutive home wins. They're hardly pushovers.

Wings fans need to stop with the 'we're rebuilding' excuse. Last summer the Preds thought they were rebuilding, but something happened on the way to mediocrity... the team refused to suck like they were supposed to. If the Preds pull off winning this series they deserve all the kudos and accolades they get. It's a young team and a young franchise. This would be a HUGE step in their evolutionary history.

I never said they were in "rebuilding mode"..I simply stated that compared to previous teams we've had in the last few years, this is the weakest and most inconsistent of them all, nothing more.

Of course the Preds would deserve all the credit, nobody's doubting that...I mean its not like they come out of nowhere here right? The Preds have been right in the middle of it all since 06-07.

I don't think anyone thinks Detroit is rebuilding, it's the oldest (I think?) team in the league. I do wish that Holland made more of a splash than getting Quincey though, especially if he was willing to part with the first rounder. You'd have to think if we limp out in the first round this year Lidstrom may not be all that enticed to come back next year, plus he'll have lost another step even if he does come back. Wish they would have made a blockbuster to load up the team and finish off his career the right way.

Having said that, nothing's over till one team has 4 W's, here's hoping Wings tie it up going back to Nashville.

No, no, no....

Shelly, you're making me sad. I know about your past feelings for Arnott. But please don't let them cloud your present-day judgment. We all know
Arnott's really just a self-righteous, lazy a$$hole, right?

Then why not vacate the 5th spot and let the 9th seed in the playoffs?? Of course the Wings are a Cup Contender. What about the home winning streak? The world class talent? This series could easily be 2-1 the other way and in some twists 3-0 either way. Lastly, I feel the winner of this series is going deep.

No one was saying anything before this series started. After last Sunday, however, I've been hearing and seeing it several times over from Wings fans. The Preds haven't even won anything yet and Wings fans have already started with all the excuses why they might not get out of the first round. When I saw his post it was right in line with the others. It makes me wonder, if it wasn't the first round and it wasn't against the Preds, would we be hearing any of this?

I just don't like people trying to diminish the Preds' accomplishments. If they do get out of the first round they will have beaten a very strong team, and yes, a Stanley Cup contender. If they don't, oh well. We've been through it before, but I won't say it's because we're so young. They've played well enough that they don't get that excuse either.

Both teams are cup contenders. It's a shame someone has to go home after round 1.

I guess I'm buying yellow ping pong balls so my fam can throw them on the ice towards Bert!!! I hate to see Josi and Ellis after being denied some table action. Taking away a ping pong table is way worse than pretending to slam a guys head into the glass!!!

Yes - the excuses of not being a contender are lame and a cop-out. Also, as D said, it's another way for some Wing fans to diminish the Preds as they love to try and do. (It's a defensive ploy embedded those particular fans' DNA.) To wit, was reading a fairly recent SI article in a reception area yesterday that was crowing about how the Wings were the toast of the NHL - the best team in the league. Of course, counting publication lead times and the ups and downs of league play, the piece was a bit premature as most of those kinds of articles are. (They are bad luck indicators. Ha!) However, no matter because many publications and pundits have put Detroit at or near the top all season long.

In any event, the series isn't even over, only sitting at a 2-1 advantage for the Preds, yet we have Wing excuses already pouring out of the woodwork. Geeeez.

That's not true, Predaceous. Actually, if you've seen much of the posts in our forum over the last few months, we've had doubts about this team BEFORE the series started (I was one of them). Even with the home streak, it became abundantly clear this team had holes that would become issues in the playoffs. The last month and a half of the season, for the Wings, really was up and down, but mostly down. I don't think anyone, save for a dillusional few, are discounting or minimizing anything the Preds have accomplished. I think that's why we all wanted to AVOID you in the first round.
