Thought it might deteriorate into that. So, I left.

I didn't watch much of the third. Saw Neal running around like he was possessed by the old Matt Cooke. Hel will be lucky to be dressed Wednesday. Asham certainly won't be.

You know what's really stupid?

Glad you asked...

When these 2 teams get together and everyone runs out of arguments so it inevitably turns into a war of words with one side touting 1975 and another touting top 5 draft picks. It's really old and stupid.

We got our ass handed to us again, sometimes you just need to accept that. On the other side of the fence maybe you don't need to be in here rubbing it in when the opposing team has owned you in the post season recently.

I don't care if people want to jab back and forth but try and keep it somewhat current. Hockey fans have short memories and big mouths. If you don't win the cup your first, second and third round wins mean nothing. It's just the way it is.

I think the Flyers have a great team and a real chance this year if and when they close us out. Focus on that and not who the Penguins drafted in '04.

Really? No one is allowed to have a talk about the history of the franchise? We're just talking hockey...why so quick with the stupidity accusation?

I'm positive Talbot has alot more to do with this beatdown then the points he's putting on the scoresheet.
- canadianpenfan

It made me sick to see Talbot out there tonight. I want to wish him the best, but I can't when I know he is sparking that locker room every intermission.

Letting him go was a big mistake.

I think the lowest attendance was in the mid twelves after the team sold off all the talent in the early 2000's. I think Mellon Arena had a capacity of 16+. soooo something like 75% capacity after the team sells off all the talent. I'd say that's not that bad considering Richard Tarnstrom led them in scoring one of those years. Furthermore.....missing the playoffs for 4 years out of 22.....c'mon....not a lot of "ebb an flow" in the last 2 decades. How many franchises would take that? Enjoy your win and let's not defame the history of the pens because you feel like rubbing it in.....
- madmike71

You guys are being way over-sensitive here. I'm not rubbing anything in & I've insulted no one.

I'm asking this in all seriousness: is the only thing that I'm allowed to talk about is today's game and this playoff series?

Not worth asking/reading. I read 1 page and got tired of the female doging and same damn crap that people continue to bring up every day.

If this talk continues I may actually have to work the next few weeks.

Same thing that happened with Bryzgalov for you earlier. One guy getting paid a lot, not earning the check. Easier to hate on that than Malkin who got us a Conn Smythe before and Crosby who has brought the Hart and captained the Cup. Whether good or bad, those moments make it harder for us to get mad at them, whereas Martin has done nothing of the sort. For similar reasons, I can't find it in my heart to ever get ticked at Talbot...

I can after today.

I don't blame him, though.

The contract (term and dollars) he got aside....

I've often wondered who was more responsible for his departure. Talbot struggled for a couple years after the cup runs. Injury and a lack of focus, but especially injury, so Max played a part but I wonder if the driving force was DB or RS. DB really seemed to lose interest in him. He's not really a true 4th line player though. He's better with good players than he is with lead footed muckers.

I read some fans here not really missing him at the time... I remember he got hurt the year after the finals and missed a lot of time. Did he just never settle back into the team after that?

well, Fossil will have an incredibly brief introduction to the post season--and a twisted one at that--so there shouldn't be any trouble on that front after Wednesday.

A little too much "Super Star" off the ice, but the injury really slowed him down. Plus he just wasn't used well/didn't have an opportunity to play with good players much after the 09 SCF.

I wasn't sorry to see him go, I am now though. To answer your question, he's playing alot better for you then he was for us. As mentioned above the Flyers have him playing with better players but I think it's more than that.

To be fair, his numbers this year are certainly out of the ordinary.

But he was a great teammate.

Less off ice drama....less Max Talbot "Super Star" selling cars....more Max Talbot, skilled 3rd liner/Penalty Killer.

I guess you guys proved my point about history not existing in the minds of many Pens fans.

Too bad; I enjoyed the conversation while it lasted. You all have a good night and good luck the rest of the way.

People would have been PISSED if Shero gave him the deal he got, that is fact.

I don't think you can underscore the "we want you" vs. the "we'll keep you for cheap" approaches the 2 teams took either. He's playing like he wants to prove something, and he's doing it.

I also think he's given some of the Pens secrets away. This is just a guess.

He had some injuries... His shoulder hurt his 2009-10 season, and last year, his play really slipped. He played soft, and really brought no energy or offense most nights.

It seemed like he was living off his SCF performance.

The money you Philly paid, he was not worth that based on his last two seasons. Change of scenery and more playing time did him wonders there.

Well I hope maybe Laviolette's system fits him better or something and he can keep his numbers where they were this year. He certainly can make mistakes, but he's also seemed to be a pretty smart player at times and gets himself in good positions when he is out with 3rd line or better type guys.

There's no way he was getting that contract in Pitt. Even if RS wanted him to stay, Talbot would have been out of town once that offer was on the table.

The player that is a real surprise who came to Philly this summer is Voracek. Everyone in Columbus must be thinking "Where was this guy when he was here?"

I was a bit iffy about it but he's earned it this year IMO. I hope he can earn it the rest of the years. Those intangibles are important. Sounds like something just wasn't fitting at the end in Pittsburgh

I think Philly has alot of guys playing better than expected this soon. Coots, Voracek and Schenn in particular.
