I can see the comparisons with Schenn and Richards. Very similar type players. Flyers made a very good trade getting Schenn and Simmonds. Kudos to Holmgren.
- PLindbergh31

Yea I mean when Schenn was drafted he was immediately compared to Richards. The more I think about it the more they are identical players. Same exact style of play.

Think about those trade...

Schenn - HUGE game
Simmonds - mediocre game
Voracek - GWG in OT
Couturier - Where was Malkin all game?

It is only one game, but in game 1 those trades lok great! lol

The first period last night was painful to watch. I give the pens credit there but I don't think the flyers were prepared for the emotion and intensity right away either.
It does make me nervous that the flyers cannot score first and play a full 60. Sooner or later it's going to be a problem.

The flyers got a break with Briere's first goal so officiating was a wash last night so let's hope that whole argument is put to rest.

I think Giroux needs to step it up some so the pens just can't focus on Briere's line.

I think Kubina may have to play if MAB can't adjust.

MAB left the game with an injury. Kubina may have to play anyway. Sure would be nice to have Meszaros. Every time Lilja and MAB were on the ice last night things got dicey.

Schenn is going to be special....He doesnt back down when the lights are on him. I loved his swagger out there, even when the flyers were loosing 3-0.

Bourdon was getting HAMMERED in that game last night. He must have taken 5-6 huge hits in that first period

Aside from the 3rd goal, Bryz was good in the first period as well. The first two goals were going in no matter who was in net.
- Flyers2821

Kind of hard to even blame him for the third goal. Far more flukey than soft. There were a couple guys who stopped skating because they expected a whistle for the icing.

No question. Flyers traded two good players, but they got very good packages in return. It's still early, but when the smoke clears I think the Flyers will have won both trades. Technically since Carter is no longer in Columbus that trade already has been won.

I think Voracek will be re-signed.

How about that play at the end of the period where the Penguins player was ready to line him up and he saw him and lowered his shoulder and laid the dude out and turned and went right at him when he got up? That was a mans play.

I also love how he backs down from NO ONE. Going right at Sidney Crosby

I agree -- it's playoff hockey, pushing and croschecking behind the play are the norm. Orpik should've been called for being a little baby and throwing himself into the boards.
- flyersfan51

To me, its a no-lose situation for the refs. Call the embellishment early in a game, even if he's not sure the player dove. This would send a firm message to the players especially if the guy did not embellish.

Grossmann took a bunch of big hits as well. He's not 100%, hopefully he can hold up.

That was the first thing Bylsma said during his press conference.
- PLindbergh31

That's cool. I'm surprised there wasn't more of an uproar on the ice at the time. It happened rather quickly, and maybe the linesman wasn't in position, but the ref was right there...I guess a ref can't make that call?

Did  u see all the bears today?" Jagr asked, referring to fans in costumes who mocked Bryz. "Must hv been 70 of them. How'd they get tix?"

The Richards trade is interesting because they got their future captain and got him now while they have a great team. If Schenn comes out and builds on what he did in game 1 and has a monster playoffs, then yea the Flyers win out in that trade because Schenn had an impact immediately. If he dies off in this playoffs but becomes a great player for the Flyers in future years... it is tough for me to say LA Kings lost out when they acquired their future Captain.

That was a thing of beauty.

It was funny, a Kings blogger tweeted last night "That's why you trade Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds for Mike Richards every time"

I asked him if he had seen the game that Schenn had. He had every bit as good a game as Richie did last night.

That's the linesman's call. It was clear even in real time Briere was offsides, it wasn't all that close. Flyers got a break, call was clearly missed. It happens.

Yea Richards did have a hell of a game as well.

Like I said in the post above, that trade is a double edged sword because acquiring Richards was a great thing for the Kings franchise... maybe even despite what Schenn and Simmonds do as Flyers.

It is a trade that just simply made sense for both sides and seems to have worked out for both sides as well.

Fair point. Richards played a great game last night. He was the best player on the ice.

the flower did seem skittish i agree

loved how they just kept dumping it in.. felt like Fleury had to play the puck like 50 times...and each time seemed shakier than the next. he'll make a mistake sooner than later

also, schenn is so fun to watch

Exactly. It was the extra cross-check that got Rinaldo penalized (they let the first one go). Other players on both sides got away with extra shots before they skated away but Rinaldo never gets the benefit of the doubt because of his rep and by virtue of being a rookie.
- bmeltzer

I realize officiating is very difficult and generally feel the refs do a good job. I have two beefs. One is making calls by the name on the back and the other is the ref at center ice making a call when the other ref is 10 feet away with a clear view of the play and not blowing his whistle.

Yea, just one of those trades that made sense for both teams when it was made, and a season into it is looking great for both teams
