This describes me to a point too even though I'm 48. I've been involved with tech and media stuff since the mid 90's and I like to keep up to date as much as possible. This helps me to relate to what my boys are doing. Heck I do most of the tech troubleshooting in our house. I may never join Twitter but I'll keep with the tech bandwagon into the retirement home. - rockychocbill
I like to stay 1 fad behind now that I am in my 30s. I have a 3g droid, and I'm getting ready to upgrade to the iphone 4... not 4s. I have windows vista, not 7. I use a GPS, not my cell phone. I have a HD tv but not LED. I have Wii, but not Kenect. I have a lap top, but its 2 years old.... SO yea... |

Does that change any of his detractors opinions me wonders. - JoeRussomanno
Absolutely not.
When Carle is on his game, he's very good.
But when he isn't, he's a turnover machine. I don't know if its the system or just him, but I've seen him make way too many boneheaded moves.
That said, I really like him. |

I grew up with instant messengers and email, with internet forums and online games (well, offline games too, but that's not the point). At the same time, I was one of the few amongst my peers who never had a cell phone until after high school (and only on and off for a few years after that). I had facebook and eventually got rid of it. I felt unfulfilled, as if it were a sort of social barrier, with that service. I grew up with all of it, I love technology, but I see where it has clearly detrimental effects. I don't have any one opinion on how to fix it. |

I was always upset that we had store brand dial up instead of AOL. Everybody else had it, I was left out
In retrospect, AOL sucked |

What part of the DC area. I was thinking about moving out to Silver Springs. Right around the Glenmont station on the Metro. My wife goes to school there, and I have been spending a lot of time there... 20 minutes on the metro to DC, and you could eat out at a nice resturant every night of the week for an entire year without going to the same place twice... Only problem I can see with the area is traffic is awful durring rush-hour.. and the charge 5 cents per plastic bag. - RooNosHockey
I lived in Hyattsville. Not to far from Silver Spring. That silver spring area really grew up a lot while I lived there. I spent a lot of time in Tacoma Park. Plenty of "hippie - dippie" stuff there for a deadhead like me. I commuted from Hyattsville to Bethesda for work from '96 to '99. HAY-TED-IT. A 15 minute drive on the beltway would take over an hour most days and god forbid there was rain/snow/an accident. I ended up cutting across town on East-West highway most of the time. Do they have the "purple line" of the metro in progress yet? Supposed to connect the Bethesda/Rockville area with the College Park/Greenbelt/Laurel area. That would have helped a lot when I lived there. From '99 to 2004, I was at UMD working on a M.S. degree. Commute got real easy. Ten minute bike ride. Crawling motorists would get pissed at me as I zipped by Oh ... and watch out for those restaurants....that can get expensive, but there for sure are some damn nice eats in Bethesda and down in Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle. I miss DC area. Always something going on. |

My kid knows that if I pick up his toys after I've asked him to take care of it, they are going away for a while. I guess I'm soft, my mom used to threaten to toss them in the trash. I can't remember calling her bluff on that either. - Lexington Flyer
My old man threw out a bunch of stuff. Ill never forget the time he chucked my pogs and slammers.
I had this tall stack of pogs and 3 beautiful colored metal chainsaw slammers.. He warned me like 3 days straight and then i went to get them one day and they were gone. He threw that poop right out with the trash! |

Techhie...I still roll with XP.
EDIT: Mainly because a lot of the scientific stats programs I use just seem to run better on that platform. |

I had it the same way. Good god man, I guess that means I am going to be a hard-ass. My son turned 3 in March. He officially got his first chore: feed the god damned cats...he remembers to do it 3 or 4 days a week, and I don't hammer him on it when he doesn't remember (again he is barely 3) but he knows he has a job. He also willingly helps with weeding and gardening etc. because we make it fun. He isn't above a tantrum in target, but he knows damn well that a tantrum seals the deal against the result for which he was hoping.
As far as this place goes, I am here to talk hockey, get info on the team, and basically enjoy games in some way with other flyers fans. I live in Kentucky and before that it was Columbus OH and DC area. I am not in Flyer country (well Caps-Flyers games were basically Flyers home games when I lived in DC late 90s early 2000s) so it is good to enjoy game discussion with other fans with the same rooting interest. I also wise-crack. Half the time it may not make anyone other than me laugh, but there is some joy in cracking yourself up...bonus if someone else "gets it". I could give a damn about the debates. I'll engage up to a point but I already have a wife who just has to always get the last word in when we argue. I don't need that vibe here in hockeyland...which is ostensibly where I go to get my mind off such things. Its just a game. Whether the Flyers win or lose really has no impact on my life in the grand scheme so arguing about whether they should trade Carle or not really isn't worth too much of my time. Just my $0.02. - Lexington Flyer
+1 Also have a three year old and relish his taking to a work ethic. Start them young. Proper conduct is expected at all times and like you said? A temper Tantrum will get you less than nowhere in life. Best to learn it sooner than later, no?

I am still in XP mainly because a lot of the scientific stats programs I use just seem to run better on that platform...and I've had no need to upgrade computers since 2007. |

I havent seen any purple line yet, but there has been recent construction on the red line.... so maybe. My wife's grandparents live in Bethesda. Wonderful area, great food... but way to expensive to live in. The metro definately makes commute much easier, as long as your job, and house are on convienient stops...

Between my wife and I, my little dude is going to have a temper. We both run hot, but the kid knows he is very very loved. He is somewhat spoiled even, but a lot of that comes from the grandparents (who have forgotten their hard-ass ways ) There are rules and decorum to be followed. There are responsibilities to be addressed. It is all part of being in a family. |
