Ok come on Roo.. Im 24.. you think this world has changed that much in the past 15 years? Here is the biggest difference. People know more now than they did then. People are weaker (mentally) now than they were then. Kids cant even fight without parents wanting to file charges and sue.
I had 2 brothers.. my neighbors on each side had 3 boys.. and the neighbor two doors down had 2. We all fought all the time. Our parents never thought twice about it. - jak521
Different mentality today. Kids are soft bottom line. Easy way out.

Of course? And someone unwisely criticized ggunky early yesterday questioning that being his "only" contribution. First of all, he does post other things. But most importantly, that is his role on this team. And he plays it with passion and grit! - bodiva88
Your kidding me right? The Kronwall debate. Those of us thought that was an illegal hit were critizied to kingdom come.... - RooNosHockey
I don't recall any personal attacks. There were strong opinions, but no attacks.
Just because someone takes the opposite viewpoint does not make it a criticism. I don't mean to single you out here, but I think that that line of thinking is what leads to the majority of problems around here.

I'm not a player agent, but if I was, and my player had a hearing with Shanahan, I'd bring video of Weber's head slam on Zetterberg and say, if all THAT got was a fine, you shouldn't be able to suspend my guy for a half an hour. - Jsaquella

I was being slightly sarcastic, but yes the world did change in the last 15 years. The constant access to media, and all the PC BS has definately changed the world, and how parents have to interact with their children. Trust me I saw it during my student teaching in 8th grade classroom.
You can say that you are going to limit you kids access to media, but you really cant; and if you do manage to, you have no idea of the social suicide your commiting for your kid... Its like sending you kid to school with a pocket protector and taped glasses...
I dont say I like it, and its one of the reason we are undecided on having children.....

I think Paul Martin is one sore mofo today. I think the Flyers did a great job finishing their checks at every opportunity. The Pens D will be banged up and the wear-and-tear that will force Orpick and leTang into logging more mins will be the Pens undoing. JMO

We had to sit down every night and eat dinner as a family. If you missed dinner you didnt eat.. and you paid for it.
If I was given the option of having been raised a different way.. I would say not a chance. - jak521
It's tough, because parents are in a situation where they often both have to work, run the house (bills, etc.), and take care of the kids. Considering the harsh and immediate consequences of (frank)ing up the former two, you can guess which of the three loses attention.
But debates are substantiated by facts where a lot of arguing here takes the "because I say so" defense. I don't really care about any of it right now, it's playoff time and I'm pumped up! - funmaster18
Of course, I left out the "clever troll" part of the problem. The ones that merely like to Seravalli with people and don't even believe what they're saying. They get off on Seravalling with other folks - like the driver that cuts you off on the highway and then paces with you so you cannot get around him. Seravalling crazy.

It's the same in our house to this day. My wife was and still is adamant about everyone sitting down together and giving thanks. Even with busy sports and activity schedules we've been able to maintain it for about 95% of the time.

I dont take opinions as personal attacks.. I like to debate. But I know an insult when I see one, and I also know when someone is being passive agressive with thier insults.

Something I never really had but want to do when nutter's spawns pop up later in life.
That last part is scarily too true. IMo I think the difference is the newer generations don't understand the meaning of working for what you get. I see other parents getting their kids the newest cellphones, ipads etc. I see young kids throwing themselves on the floor in target cause mom won't buy the toy they want and then the parent caves in. Those practices imo instills a sense of entitlement. Even when my own kids complain, kindly remind them, when I was your age your grandparents had me cutting grass, pulling weeds, splitting stacking firewood, yes I did all that by the age of 10. When I see a 12 year old kid sit on the porch while grandmom cuts the grass, that makes me shake my head. I guess what I'm saying is the raising of young people imo has taken a drastic change and I don't think it's for the best. - JoeRussomanno
I had it the same way. Good god man, I guess that means I am going to be a hard-ass. My son turned 3 in March. He officially got his first chore: feed the god damned cats...he remembers to do it 3 or 4 days a week, and I don't hammer him on it when he doesn't remember (again he is barely 3) but he knows he has a job. He also willingly helps with weeding and gardening etc. because we make it fun. He isn't above a tantrum in target, but he knows damn well that a tantrum seals the deal against the result for which he was hoping.
As far as this place goes, I am here to talk hockey, get info on the team, and basically enjoy games in some way with other flyers fans. I live in Kentucky and before that it was Columbus OH and DC area. I am not in Flyer country (well Caps-Flyers games were basically Flyers home games when I lived in DC late 90s early 2000s) so it is good to enjoy game discussion with other fans with the same rooting interest. I also wise-crack. Half the time it may not make anyone other than me laugh, but there is some joy in cracking yourself up...bonus if someone else "gets it". I could give a damn about the debates. I'll engage up to a point but I already have a wife who just has to always get the last word in when we argue. I don't need that vibe here in hockeyland...which is ostensibly where I go to get my mind off such things. Its just a game. Whether the Flyers win or lose really has no impact on my life in the grand scheme so arguing about whether they should trade Carle or not really isn't worth too much of my time. Just my $0.02.

This is very true. Kids don't meet up and hang out in person anywhere near as much as us boomers did back in the day. Heck, they don't even talk on the phone any more. It's all text and Facebook.

The best was the days when you cracked the last wiffle ball.. or lost the football, and you had to make something up. We made up so many great games.... God i miss those days! - jak521
I know right! Making up games of fabricating something to work in the original thing's place! I wait that might be teaching adaptability we don't want them doing that I think for every sport we had at least three variations on games to play in spirit of the original.

I fear I may not have a dog in the race that is this discussion. Or rather, I feel like I've got stake in both sides, the young tech savvy side and the tech disillusioned older crowd. MixedPheelingsPhan87
