My dad used to whistle for us to come home.. If we were to far to hear his whistle and didnt come home (typically for dinner) we didnt eat. Ill tell ya what.. sometimes rough and tumble was worth not eating.
Grass stains, mud and blood covered all of my clothes until I was about 14.. - jak521
In one neighborhood we lived in that was the case as for being within earshot. The second neighborhood my parents built a house in a newer part of town and I had to go down the street and around the corner to the other kids. So it was tough that was when the old street light rule came in. We didn't play rough and tumble, but kill the man was our game, and yea getting in trouble was worth it sometimes |

It has it's moments, but like Nutter said, it's on the decline imo. Seems like every 6 months or so we lose some more good posters. I can name at least a dozen since I've been on board. I know nothing stays the same forever (except death and taxes) but it's pretty hard to get a laugh out of folks these days. - rockychocbill
You left out "Briere scoring in the playoffs" in your list of certainties.

But then your parents didnt have to worry about drive by shootings at the park, or some child molester picking you up, or the lawsuit they would get if you broke another kids leg playing football... - RooNosHockey
Ok come on Roo.. Im 24.. you think this world has changed that much in the past 15 years? Here is the biggest difference. People know more now than they did then. People are weaker (mentally) now than they were then. Kids cant even fight without parents wanting to file charges and sue.
I had 2 brothers.. my neighbors on each side had 3 boys.. and the neighbor two doors down had 2. We all fought all the time. Our parents never thought twice about it. |

I'm just going to give my thoughts here.
Im 21. Maybe its because I immigrated to Canada in 1997.
I never had anything other than a computer and my playing time was limited.
Is it the 10 year olds fault that he is obsessed with his xbox? Or the parents who have let him play it for 4 hours a day since he was 6. - flyer_nutter
It's the capitalistic machine's fault for making them and then marketing the snot out of them so the parents barely stand a chance. But honestly, it's like Joe said, you need to draw the line with kids and be firm with the splitting up of their "electronics" time vs. school work, chores and "family time". Family time.........oooooh what a concept. Whatever shall we do now? |

The best was the days when you cracked the last wiffle ball.. or lost the football, and you had to make something up. We made up so many great games.... God i miss those days! |

I'm not a player agent, but if I was, and my player had a hearing with Shanahan, I'd bring video of Weber's head slam on Zetterberg and say, if all THAT got was a fine, you shouldn't be able to suspend my guy for a half an hour. |

Well... to debate one point versus another IS an argument, in its purest definition. Contradiction, for its own sake, is what annoys me.
It's as if someone scans the boards, sees the popular position and takes the opposite view just for the sake of automatically gainsaying said popular view. - Flyskippy
But debates are substantiated by facts where a lot of arguing here takes the "because I say so" defense. I don't really care about any of it right now, it's playoff time and I'm pumped up! |

A big problem of today. Unless it for economic reasons purely by somebody else's doing anyone thats 40 and living at home with no degree is a loser.
Too much politically correct nonsense. - flyer_nutter
I won't go so far as to call another person a loser. But I'll say this if you are in a bad situation and not working to make it better, then I don't know what to say. |

I can rationally debate with anyone all day if needed. I try to be respectful though. The best one in recent days was the hit on Voracek by Kronwall. It polarized people in here but both sides explained how they saw it in a fairly rational manner imo.
It's the constant, he sucks, he blows, he spits, comments without any rational thought behind them that bug me. The occasional, well timed one, can be funny. But mostly it's just pure annoyance. - rockychocbill
Your kidding me right? The Kronwall debate. Those of us thought that was an illegal hit were critizied to kingdom come.... |

We had to sit down every night and eat dinner as a family. If you missed dinner you didnt eat.. and you paid for it.
If I was given the option of having been raised a different way.. I would say not a chance. |

Honestly I gotta hand it to you, pegged you for 30 or more. Very mature for your age I guess. - JoeRussomanno
I like to think I have a bit of Clint Eastwood in me haha.
Nahh im only 21 though. Moving out this summer with the gf, and switched career paths once again to go into nursing as Ive finally been accepted for september.
I'm honestly not that mature. I tried to buy a kayak today, and put it in the back of my trunk/car with the seats folded down. Two thirds of it sticking out. Even went a block before turning back. While doing that my cheap side came out and I said I'll say the money for something else.

If you have things situated and no mouths to feed, make as many career paths changes as you want. Nothing wrong with finding what you want to do and good luck |

My bad. The little booger is just electric this time of year. I've always thought he was clutch. One of the most clutch players in the league (shootouts aside thankfully). |

I think driving is a good example of that. I just love people that have to pull out and race ahead of you only to turn right at the next light. Oooooh you're a genius for getting around goody two shoes, speed limit obeying little me so you can get to where you're going 10 seconds sooner. Sheesh. - rockychocbill
I see this everyday almost. I get passed in no passing zones, double lines, back roads at a blind curve.
Sorry angry drivers, when I am getting paid to drive to and from work and sometimes time and a half you better believe I am doing the speed limit and no more. |
