And they'll love you for it more when it pays off as they get older, trust me! Stay the course, Rocky! I got friends pushing 40 who live at home and no college degree or nothing, (i'm not bashing people for having to move home either, plz don't take this out of context, I understand the economy is tough out there) by doing what you;re doing it should be instilling a sense of drive and responsibility in them,. I know it did me.

Oh and kick the can and road hockey are the best! These kids don;t know what they are missing!

- JoeRussomanno

A big problem of today. Unless it for economic reasons purely by somebody else's doing anyone thats 40 and living at home with no degree is a loser.

Too much politically correct nonsense.

Arguing in "those days" was more cordial, for sure, because there were more open minds. Those arguments were about discovering truth. Now it's about ego and proving one's self right.

That's my perception anyway. YMMV.

You mean the great minds of Plato and aristotle didnt argue over the value of Jody Shelley on the roster?!

we used to play capture, rough and tumble, street hockey, and kick the can till the sun went down every day. Now kids dont leave their friggin xbox or ps3
- jak521

I'm just going to give my thoughts here.

Im 21. Maybe its because I immigrated to Canada in 1997.

I never had anything other than a computer and my playing time was limited.

Is it the 10 year olds fault that he is obsessed with his xbox? Or the parents who have let him play it for 4 hours a day since he was 6.

I make my kids go out and get off the tv, video games etc. That stuff is for rainy days and nightime imo. Not when there isn't a cloud in the sky. Don't want to go outside good sit on the couch and do nothing take your pick, that's my practice. If i wasn't laid up right now I'd be out there with them, but that's coming again I'm getting cabin fever

But yea my daughter's 11 by the time I was her age I probably served about 6 mo's of being grounded for not coming home on time

that and the fact that kids "rights" have taken away from parenting. You cant even yell at your kid anymore. poop.. i see kids at the mall tell their mom to shut up. If i ever said that my mom woulda slapped the poop out of me... and then my dad would have ended my life.

Why is it about fault? It is what it is.

You were reminiscing about this site...other people are reminiscing about their childhood.

My dad used to whistle for us to come home.. If we were to far to hear his whistle and didnt come home (typically for dinner) we didnt eat. Ill tell ya what.. sometimes rough and tumble was worth not eating.

Grass stains, mud and blood covered all of my clothes until I was about 14..

Its hard for me to hear that "kids" are so lazy these days. I only say this because I worked with them for years in the inner city.

Dont bash the kid that sits playing xbox all day, he didnt raise himself.

Its getting nutty in here. I like it

No because, well at least when I originally came I used to post crazy poop. I kind of am crazy in real life too.

I'll be the first to say I got sucked in to the constant "debating" bullpoop on here.

- flyer_nutter

I can rationally debate with anyone all day if needed. I try to be respectful though. The best one in recent days was the hit on Voracek by Kronwall. It polarized people in here but both sides explained how they saw it in a fairly rational manner imo.

It's the constant, he sucks, he blows, he spits, comments without any rational thought behind them that bug me. The occasional, well timed one, can be funny. But mostly it's just pure annoyance.

But then your parents didnt have to worry about drive by shootings at the park, or some child molester picking you up, or the lawsuit they would get if you broke another kids leg playing football...

Im 24. Its a combination of both I think... I had nintendo, then snes, then playstation, etc. I never wanted to sit inside all day and play video games... I had about 15 kids in a 2 block radius in delco that were between 8-13.. We all played outside unless it was raining. When it was dark we played capture.. and would end up with closer to 25 kids all dressed in black.

Those days trumped even the best video games..

I do also believe the parents promote this inside/video game life. They need to be kicked in the head.

Arguing isn't debating, or discussing. It's annoying.
- funmaster18

Well... to debate one point versus another IS an argument, in its purest definition. Contradiction, for its own sake, is what annoys me.

It's as if someone scans the boards, sees the popular position and takes the opposite view just for the sake of automatically gainsaying said popular view.

The thing is, every generation says that about the younger ones. It's the way it works. It's like looking back fondly at something... A lot is better in memory.
