So did the Flyers choose Grossmann over Carle? I just think Carles agent wants him to be paid fairly. At this point its a long shot to keep him.
- stveshdy

this year they didn't choose one over the other, they had carle on the roster and needed a big bodied d-man or two. Enter Grossmann and Kubina.

Now in the offseason they have a choice to make to either let Carle walk or pay him. This is where we can debate till the cows jump over the moon. The agent will want top dollar and to some that is over 5mil a year. Should he be paid, sure if that is what the market is...BUT can the Flyers afford it or save the money to go towards someone else? Jagr/Jake/Simmonds etc...

Im more pumped up by Briere picking up where he left off. Uncanny how he flips the switch every year!
- funmaster18

It is uncanny.

I mean, some of it is clearly luck. He throws pucks towards the net and they seem to find a hole sometimes. Other times, it is his particular skill set of disappearing until BAM, there he is with the puck in a scoring position.

I knew he'd pull through! And noemi don't care what he did in the regular season, despite his contract. He's earning it now.

When they are down 2-3 goals, and need a defenseman to jump up in the play, Carle and Kimmo are the guys.

Mezsaros too, but he is...

Right, offensive defensemen vs defensive defensemen. You need both types.

The 3rd picture has been photoshopped. #44 hasn't move a frame between either shot. Neither has Briere.

You did a good job to move Briere's shadow along with him. Or did you just move the blueline and puck?

The Flyers got a huge break on the Briere goal. But really, who give a rats ass what the NHL network guys say? Tons of penalties they got away with? Every icing call went their way? C'mon, seriously. For the most part is was a well officiated game. Both teams got breaks. The players decided the game. The only thing that matters is the final score. And the Flyers won the game. Everything else is BS.
- MJL

the briere off sides goal cancels with the icing goal the pens got was my point. i care what they say on the nhl network. i don't like feeling like a 2nd/3rd class hockey fan just because i don't root for the face of the nhl. the least they can do is be fair. they acted like the icing goal was nothing and briere being 6 inches off sides was monumental. the fact is both teams got breaks, both teams gut away with penalties and the refs did have little to do with the outcome. but, that's only b/c the flyers' pk was so strong. the penalties against giroux and jagr were absolute crap. the one on orpik was well deserved. the refs let both teams get away with murder. so if you look at it the breaks evened out and the officiating favored the pens. they got the benefit of the doubt on penalties, icings and offsides. it wasn't a huge advantage, but they were the ones who faced less adversity due to luck and officiating. we got one break and two bad calls against us, plus a couple bad icings, should have gotten the benefit of a couple more icing calls. they got one break and benefited from two bad penalty calls. to me the breaks went the pens way and that just adds to how much we outplayed them by

I think his work ethic and tenacity in the postseason helps him create that luck, though. He puts himself in positions to make things happen and maybe it's a fluky play, but he helps create those opportunities. He takes his grit to a new level once the playoffs begin.

I'm not reading back through 15 pages... Have any of our Pens groupies made a visit today...

Last night the Pens blog was filled with people blaming Pitt for not playing 60, and no-one gave credit to the Flyers working hard.

I think the biggest "win" last night was Lavi's ability to out coach BILEsma on the fly. Really if you take out the flukey goals like Crosby's, Sullivan's, and Briere's first... Flyers win in regulation. Like I said... Keep Crosby, Malkin, Neal, and Letang to 1 goal a game and we win this series in 5-6.

I was amused by the "experts" who actually blamed Grossmann for the Crosby goal. All he did "wrong" was that Crosby found the puck first, a fraction of a second after the initial blocked shot. The play was on Coburn's side, where Grossmann had correctly rotated and then blocked a shot. Not sure what he was supposed to do differently there.

The Dupuis goal was just one of those fluky plays.

Overall, I thought Grossmann took a pounding early and was clearly getting targeted because he's right off an injury -- no complaints there, and all of the hits he took were clean ones. It was also his first game back and had only skated twice since the injury, so his timing was a little bit off. Should also be mentioned that he not been in a playoff series since 2008 and this was his first game since signing the big contract extension (so the adrenaline/nerves were probably a little higher than normal -- it is a game played by humans).

Along with Coburn, Grossmann settled in very nicely as the game went along.

I would put the odds at 20% that Carle is back. Money is going to be a huge factor and unless Homer deals a current player like JvR or Mez I dont see how they can fit him in. Also if JvR gets traded (which I doubt) they will be getting a defenseman back in that trade making Carle less likely to return as well. I wish they could afford him but I just dont see it working out. I could be wrong, in fact I have been wrong plenty of times. Wouldnt surprise me if he signs Suter either and then finds a way to dump salary. You never know what Homer will do.

the jagr call was the one where cindy embellished the most. he saw jagr's arm and preteneded like he was being attacked by it.

He took advantage of a blocked shot that the flyers couldn't locate. That's not fluky, it's capitalizing on a chance. It was a great shot, IMO.
