it's offsides for sure -- but if danny just keeps one skate on the blue line, he's good. so he was offsides by a foot....no pun intended.
- flyersfan51

The shocking thing for me was that Danny never left the zone. You see plenty of close offsides calls throughout the season. Almost all of them are guys entering the zone. This one was glaringly obvious imo.

Anyways, what's done is done and I'm not gonna beat it up anymore.

Having Briere and Schenn step up is huge for this series, it creates some match up problems for the Pens. Towards the second half of the game Bylsma switched Staal's line from covering Giroux to covering Briere's line.

Not much praise for Matt Carle today, I though he quietly had a great game. He is very good jumping into the offensive play when the Flyers were down, and blocking shots and clearing pucks well all night. That first period by the Pens was very scary to watch. It was a great comeback, but it had me thinking that the Flyers have no chance if the Pens can play at that level the whole time.

Is Rinaldo being "Carcillo'd"? I mean his reputation is getting him called every time he is involved in a hit, and Lavi may have no option other then to sit him. It's a shame, I think he can be effective and help them grind on the Pen's D on his forecheck, but he won't get the chance to do it.

Fascinating how most of the players involved in last summer's big trade had a huge night. Richards and Carter combined for the game winning goal and 5 points last night. Richards was very good against Kesler, and had him off his game a bit.

I can't stand the embellishing. But I agree with JSAQ, its up to the refs to stop it, otherwise the players will use it to try to win. I think it ultimately bites the team that is doing it in the ass.

I'll take this one MJL.

eh hem. Of course Matt Carle is not going to be praised on these boards. The only time anyone has anything bad to say about him is the 0.0001% of the time he screws up. Carle is always in good position, despite many detractors he plays an excellent physical game. Tonight he proved why he is worth his weight in gold once he hits the free agent market. Carle will not make the flashy plays, he will just make the smart ones. But of course people on these boards will not give him his kudos when he deserves it. They will just continue to whine about who should get bought out this summer, who should we trade, etc. etc. It gets old.

in years past, even earlier in the year, the Flyers were coughing up leads at an annoying rate. they just could not hang onto a lead to save their lives. over the last few months, they have flipped the script, intentionally or unintentionally and for better or worse. They cannot get a lead but they don't allow the other team to keep it either. I would prefer a happy medium of a steady as she goes game, but I'll take game 1.

I think Carle is good. Solid, reliable, durable. I just don't think he is $5+ mm good. Is Carle so superior to Grossmann?

Two different players with different skill sets. And according to the NHL, a player that brings what Carle does is worth more on the Free Agent market, then a player like Grossmann is for what he brings.

Im more pumped up by Briere picking up where he left off. Uncanny how he flips the switch every year!

you have to build around your needs. What do/did the Flyers need more? A Carle type player or a Grossmann type player. oh and what system does your team play...

Thanks.

People tend to use their tix in the playoffs, rather than sell them to whomever. And if you have any sense, you don't bring little kids to playoff games. And most people have sense. So there's not a lot of filtering of language like there is in the regular season. The four to my right will not be the kids and 'rents. The kids stay home. The 'rents sell the 2 extras. And we all grind like Flyers.

Am worried that with Mimi in Jamaica I may have a yinzer on the left. Please GOD let it be a Flyer fan.

Just ordered my tickets for game 4 I should have did it before they won yesterday, they went up like 30 bucks :/

So did the Flyers choose Grossmann over Carle? I just think Carles agent wants him to be paid fairly. At this point its a long shot to keep him.

In the 3rd picture, Briere is making an outside turn towards the blueline as the puck is coming in. Briere has already been well inside the zone as the puck approaches, and never left the offensive zone. That can be clearly seen in the 2nd picture.

I would like to thank Crosby for the second goal Briere scored. Crosby is a stand up guy after all.
A stand up guy in front of his goalie that is.
We need more play like that from 87.

You're probably right, I just don't see it. Carle isn't a PP quarterback, so his value isn't inflated there. He's not a big hitter or particularly physical. He's smart, with pretty good speed, sound positionally, picks his spots to pinch and jump up on the play, and sometimes has a really good break-out pass.

All of that is very valuable, no doubt, but I don't think that sets him among the elite defenseman in the league.

BTW, must say that I liked the way Bylsma handled his postgame media time. Barkann was mocking him on CSN but I thought Bylsma said all the right things and gave the right answers, up to and including crediting the Flyers for what they did to establish the comeback.

Contrast that to Guy Carbonneau in 2008, where he kept insisting his team was doing everything right, needed no adjustments, and the Flyers were just getting unbelievably good luck --- right up til the Habs were eliminated in Game 5.

I thought Bylsma hit all the right notes: no sense of panic but a sense of respect for the opponent's capabilities.

- bmeltzer

I was just thinking about that, the Habs all series felt we got lucky breaks and they were the better team, too cocky for their own good.

I always have thought Bylsma was and is an amazing coach, you have to respect the man for what he has done over the years. I would take him over about 27 other coaches in this league at this point.

I will say Lave has grown on me and I think he is also one hell of a coach.

When they are down 2-3 goals, and need a defenseman to jump up in the play, Carle and Kimmo are the guys.

Mezsaros too, but he is...

If Briere's foot is touching blue as the puck crosses, is he onside, or do both feet need to be out then come back in?

Carle more then sometimes has a really good break out pass. He is exceptional in that regard. Are players like Lidstrom or Ryan Suter physical or big hitters?
Elite defenseman in the NHL get paid far more then 5M a year. So I don't know why earning that salary would put Carle there.
