Yes.

Schenn, Briere, Crosby

sounds about right to me.

Couturier did a fantastic job against Malkin. To think this kid is only 19 is amazing. The future is bright, as is the present.

No Briere didn't look onsides at full speed. He was clearly offside regardless of what speed you watch at. I was flabbergasted when they missed that it was so obvious. Flyers got a huge break there. If that's called offsides do the Flyers come back in the game? I have my doubts.

I believe it was the same linesman who waived off the Dupuis non-icing goal too. Do you think he works another game in this series?

Another note.. as expected, most of the media (especially in Canada) are focussing on the blown call for Briere's goal. Of course.. they ARE NOT even mentioning the blown icing call that lead directly to goal #3. Turnabout is fair play baby.
- Hextall271

because an icing call is always left to the discretion of the official who is supposed to judge adequately if the player(s) were able to reach the puck in time...an offside is black on white (or rather blue on white!), there are no leeways, you are offside or you are not...and briere was offside by a mile!

It would be funny to see a bunch of nuck fans show up with posters listing the address and names of the establishments willing to entertain that! Be a heckuva advertisement for them too.

It took a stellar save by MAF seconds before the Briere goal to keep the Flyers off the board. Clearly momentum was building. Even at 3-1 the Flyers took a couple of penalties so the Penguins had a chance to get a 3 goal lead again. The call helped the Flyers without question, but to suggest Pittsburgh lost the game because of it is unjust. Bylsma said as much in his press conference. Home team still has to close out a 2 goal lead there, regardless of a bad call.

Rule 81 - Icing

81.1 Icing – For the purpose of this rule, the center red line will divide the ice into halves. Should any player of a team, equal or superior in numerical strength (power-play) to the opposing team, shoot, bat or deflect the puck from his own half of the ice beyond the goal line of the opposing team, play shall be stopped.

For the purpose of this rule, the point of last contact with the puck by the team in possession shall be used to determine whether icing has occurred or not. As such, the team in possession must “gain the line” in order for the icing to be nullified. “Gaining the line” shall mean that the puck (not the player’s skate) must make contact with the center red line in order to nullify a potential icing.

For the purpose of interpretation of the rule, “icing the puck” is completed the instant the puck is touched first by a defending player (other than the goalkeeper) after it has crossed the goal line and if in the action of so touching the puck, it is knocked or deflected into the net, it is no goal.

The Flyers special teams came up humongous big last night.

Killed all 3 penalties against and got 1 ppg for.

Hartnell's slap pass to Schenn was a thing of beauty!

Having Briere and Schenn step up is huge for this series, it creates some match up problems for the Pens. Towards the second half of the game Bylsma switched Staal's line from covering Giroux to covering Briere's line.

Not much praise for Matt Carle today, I though he quietly had a great game. He is very good jumping into the offensive play when the Flyers were down, and blocking shots and clearing pucks well all night.

That first period by the Pens was very scary to watch. It was a great comeback, but it had me thinking that the Flyers have no chance if the Pens can play at that level the whole time.

Is Rinaldo being "Carcillo'd"? I mean his reputation is getting him called every time he is involved in a hit, and Lavi may have no option other then to sit him. It's a shame, I think he can be effective and help them grind on the Pen's D on his forecheck, but he won't get the chance to do it.

Fascinating how most of the players involved in last summer's big trade had a huge night. Richards and Carter combined for the game winning goal and 5 points last night. Richards was very good against Kesler, and had him off his game a bit.

I can't stand the embellishing. But I agree with JSAQ, its up to the refs to stop it, otherwise the players will use it to try to win. I think it ultimately bites the team that is doing it in the ass.

If Richards continues to make Penner and Carter look as good as he did last night this thing could be over in 4.

When the offense catches up to the defense ability, wow. I see a lot of Jordan Staal in Couturier. Couturier might actually have a little more offensive upside. I think Staal is a better skater though. But at 19, Couturier can certainly improve.

They were all huge. If the Pens score on the Giroux PP they go up 4-0 and it's most likely curtains. The Pens could have turned around the momentum swing after the Briere goal by scoring on the Rinaldo PP but instead that kill actually gave the Flyers more energy.

I just read Adam Proteau's recap and I wonder if he was watching the same game I did.

Bryz was shaky? No, the Flyers were bad in front of him. I can't blame him for any of the 3 Pens' tallies. Breakdowns, turnovers and poor execution got them in that hole.

And of course, while the blown off sides call is prominently mentioned, the blown icing call doesn't merit a mention.

I don't think a lot of people realized but even though the pens finished better in all categories of special teams than the Flyers, when the two teams went head to head this season, the Flyers ourscored the Pens pp 6-3. TO me that's a telling sign.
