The Penguins sold every contact. The calls on Giroux and Jagr were direct results of Orpik and Crosby embellishing. There would have been no call on Giroux had Orpik not stayed down. And Crosby's head toss when Jagr interfered with him was the kid of stuff he did as a rookie that he says he's outgrown.

I usually don't rip on Crosby. I think he's a stellar player. But he was trying to sell calls last night.

I agrEE. At some point last night JJ said that the Flyers need to start doing the same things, sell every call. I said "No way, play the game and the rest will take care of itself."

Pretty amazing Schenn's first playoff game was his best game as a pro. As others pointed out he also made that tremendous stretch pass to Jagr that led to a breakaway. He could have had a four point night. He was also very physical and played with an edge.

Schenn2Shine!!

The most amazing part to me was how calm, cool and collected he was in his post game interview. The kid is born for the playoffs.

Briere and Schenn are going to be an unstoppable duo during these playoffs.

Last night was such an emotional roller coaster ride.

We have seen this teams fight all year and again last night.

Danny Briere, playoff stud.

Bryz's glove save on a turnover that left a pen all alone out in front was the turning point in the game.

Bryz was rock solid last night and exactly what this team needs.

Schenn

Danny Briere, Mr. Postseason! And bryz was solid after that first period. Hopefully it's smooth sailing from here on out!

I disagree with that. It's frustrating to see, but some of the greatest players in Flyers history were every bit as bad-if not worse-than Crosby in trying to sell calls.

Bill Barber was gold medal worthy. I just get miffed when the refs buy an obvious embellishment and make a borderline call in a game where they're really letting them play.

- Jsaquella

That is the frustrating part. It's not like the officials aren't familiar with the guys who do it, either.

Who was the 3rd forward with Giroux and Voracek? Was it Clyde (Simmonds)?

Such an amazing win. As Bill said, we have to be in the Pen's head right now. I was so wired after the game, I could hardly sleep

Our guys have to look at the next slice of bread in the loaf --game 2 now.

Aside from the 3rd goal, Bryz was good in the first period as well. The first two goals were going in no matter who was in net.

TSN captured the Flyers bench when Voracek scored, Laviolette's reaction was epic. Even more animated than the Winnipeg game.

The flyers persevered, though.

Can't wait to hear all about the blown offsides call, as of it was the reason the Pens couldn't hold a 3 goal lead

It was a weak ass call, as was the one on Giroux. I wish a ref would have the balls to give out the unsportsmanlike call when guys embellish.
- 12,9 and 22

I agree -- it's playoff hockey, pushing and croschecking behind the play are the norm. Orpik should've been called for being a little baby and throwing himself into the boards.

That was a legitimate call, but refs see Rinaldo's number and they tend to give very little leeway.
- Jsaquella

Exactly. It was the extra cross-check that got Rinaldo penalized (they let the first one go). Other players on both sides got away with extra shots before they skated away but Rinaldo never gets the benefit of the doubt because of his rep and by virtue of being a rookie.

The overwhelming consensus was that Giroux and JvR are the cornerstone pieces of this franchise moving forward... it is Giroux and Schenn.

Schenn has a lot of Mike Richards in him, but seems to have a much better head on his shoulders.

"We can move forward now," Laviolette said. "There were a lot of first-time experiences today. That's over with. We persevered. That's a good thing. The playoffs are like a loaf of bread. It's slice by slice. Some slices you really like, some are kind of moldy and rotten. One has nothing to do with the rest."

I agree but I thought after the first quick goals he looked frantic in net. He really settled down in the 2nd.

The non-offside wasn't much of an issue last night. Pens fans know that wasn't why they lost that game.

I can see the comparisons with Schenn and Richards. Very similar type players. Flyers made a very good trade getting Schenn and Simmonds. Kudos to Holmgren.

The first period last night was painful to watch. I give the pens credit there but I don't think the flyers were prepared for the emotion and intensity right away either.
It does make me nervous that the flyers cannot score first and play a full 60. Sooner or later it's going to be a problem.

The flyers got a break with Briere's first goal so officiating was a wash last night so let's hope that whole argument is put to rest.

I think Giroux needs to step it up some so the pens just can't focus on Briere's line.

I think Kubina may have to play if MAB can't adjust.

and my point was more towards crybaby does it because the league lets him. he walks on water, him and every other peng-wine as far as the league is concerned
- flyerscup2011

I understand your point. My point was, that if I'm a player and the refs give me calls when I do something, I'm going to do it until they tell me to knock it off or call me for a penalty for it.

Not Crosby's fault the refs buy what he's selling. He's trying to win the game and give his team an advantage.

Imagine if the flyers can just put a good first period together!
