At the risk of sounding like Rico Martin here is what I would like to see them do.

Trade Vanek our 1st and 2nd to Edmonton for the #1 and draft Nail. He replaces Vanek's loss on the wing and Edmonton gets a proven goal scorer to insert into their top 6.

Trade Roy and Nashville's 1st to Calgary for their 1st and if you still feel froggy about Gaunce it's still probably in the area where he will go.

We get two studs and unload two of the most rotten pieces of the current core. This would also free up a poop ton of cap room for free agents.

Or make a move with the Islanders to take Galchenyuk.

Then do your other move and get Gaunce.

That would work also. I prefer the Oiler move because I'd rather trade Vanek out West and I'd rather have Nail than Galchenyuk, I think. Although drafting two 1st round centers doesn't sound like a bad idea either.

Yes. He actually peaked a month before the All-Star game. He was benched shortly after the ASG and sent back to the minors soon after.

That is really only 1 move more than what almost everyone thinks we will do (Roy). I agree that the D will remain virtually untouched, and I think it should. It would be nice to have one more vet on a 2-way though. We're likely talking playoffs and not draft right now if we have a veteran to come in in the last 4 games instead of Brennan and McNabb.
- Pierceme69

It's possible. I think the draft would be ideal for us to move Roy, but I don't know that they'll even do that. If they don't, he'll be here until at least close to the deadline. Maybe he'll be a better player. It's always interesting to me to hear about the different things guys struggled with all year. I was surprised to see he said the injury he had last year takes about 2 years to fully heal. I don't know if that's just him making an excuse, or if it's accurate. Pommer's leg injury was pretty gruesome and he seemed to be unaffected by it. Not sure if it's really a huge difference in the type of injury or if it's just a huge difference in the attitude of the guy with the injury.

I thought Roy's skating improved markedly in the second half of the season but his shooting, passing, everything else didn't.

That wouldn't be a bad idea because the Islanders need D as well. That's where they need to start focusing. We have plenty of that, so we could probably swing something their way. I almost want it to happen just so that Toronto doesn't have a chance at Galchenyuk. Is that terrible?

Hell no. Any way we can make ourselves better AND screw the Leafs is anything but terrible.

It almost sounded like he pushed himself too much in the offseason trying to get back into shape and ended up doing himself more harm. Then to compound the shoulder injury as well. Maybe the shoulder bothered him more throughout the season. I could see how that could happen. Generally when you get hit, that's the part of the body that seems to take a good brunt of the impact.

My problem with him was more or less the effort he seemed to put in on a nightly basis. I don't like that him and Ruff had this little spat in public basically, but maybe that gets both of them to take a step back and realize that both had valid points and that they both have areas that need work.

My guess is Toronto will just ruin whatever player they end up with. Wasn't Luke Schenn a 5ht overall pick?

He's listed at 5-10 but is more 5-8ish.

I'd rather have Galchenyuk honestly.

I actually liked that some of Roy's teammates backed him up without going quite as far as he did. If you think about it he was totally right. If I wasn't doing a good job at work and my boss told everyone publicly without talking to me about it one on one it would make me feel pretty pissed off too.

His numbers are just eye popping though. 101 points in 65 games followed by 69 points in 42 games.

I think both of them handled it poorly, but maybe it needed to happen in order to change anything. It was odd to me because we always hear about how Ruff doesn't seem to give Roy the same kind of negative attention as someone like Vanek. Roy appears to get away with everything and Vanek doesn't get an inch. Well, maybe that wasn't completely accurate now that we have some new facts that we've all heard from both Ruff's mouth and Roy's mouth. But, it could cause there to be some change in the way things are done, and that could help. It could turn into the case where the same coach gets different results because methods need to be changed.

Or it could be the catalyst to get both Roy and Vanek out of here. I'm not opposed to either scenario. Vanek is really the only player who would net a quality return that I would be willing to trade.

I feel like Vanek needs to be moved because of the friction between him and Ruff. I think he gets so stressed because of Ruff that it ends up causing him to play timid on the ice. He's too afraid he's going to make a mistake.

He could get a decent return, but essentially to move him you have to target teams who have cap space (probably one looking to get to the cap floor) and that have something worth getting back in return.

That's one guy out of how many? There is no 100% guarantee, but I'd bet that Yakupov is more of a Steven Stamkos than an Alexandre Daigle.
